This paper is intended only for customers seeking to activate purchased SBC SWe Edge features in support of production deployments (i.e. supporting live customer traffic), in either on-premises and public cloud (e.g. Microsoft® Azure™ or Amazon Web Services (AWS)) ) deployments. For the activation of no-obligation free features, refer to the trial offers available for on-premises and public cloud (e.g. Microsoft® Azure™ or Amazon Web Services (AWS)) based evaluations.

Retrieving the Management ID
After you generate the license key, you will receive an email within 24 hours (check spam folder, clutter, and such) that includes the Management ID. For information about how to apply the Management ID, refer to either Configuring for Ribbon Application Management Platform during Initial Setup or Configuring for Ribbon Application Management Platform at Node-level.

FIRST STEPS - Identify the Correct Release and SBC SWe Edge ID

Before generating an SBC SWe Edge Permanent License, do the following:

  • Confirm the SBC SWe Edge was first installed and activated (whether on-premises or in public deployments) with Release 9.0.0, 8.1.5 or later, or Release 8.0.4 software (to identify the SBC SWe Edge's software release, refer to Viewing the Software Version and Hardware ID (SBC 1000/2000, SBC SWe Edge)). If the SBC SWe Edge was initially installed and activated with Release 8.1.0 or 8.0.3 or earlier, do not generate a license file from this portal at this time. Instead, disregard all further actions on this page and contact Ribbon support for the next steps.  An attempt to generate a license without Ribbon support results in an SBC SWe Edge operation failure, and delays the roll-out of SBC services.
  • When submitting the SBC SWe Edge ID to generate the license file, confirm you are using the correct SBC SWe Edge ID value: a 32 character string found in the Release 9.0.0, 8.0.4, or 8.1.5 System Overview display.

Before generating a license, identify the SBC SWe Edge ID in System Overview as follows:

  1. In the WebUI, click the System tab.
  2. In the System page, click the Overview tab.
  3. Identify and record the the correct SBC SWe Edge ID (see Figure 1 as an example) before generating a license, and proceed to Prerequisites.

Ordering Production Licenses

A software license must be purchased from Ribbon Sales. To purchase a license, contact Ribbon as follows:

Once the license is purchased, you will receive instructions via email for accessing the licensing portal.

Available licenses for purchase are as follows:

  • Licenses for public cloud (e.g. Microsoft® Azure™ and Amazon Web Services (AWS)) deployments: Working with Licenses.
  • Licenses for on-premises VMM (Virtual Machine Monitor) deployments (e.g. KVM, Microsoft Hyper-V, or VMware ESXi): Working with Licenses.

Generating and Installing an SBC SWe Edge Production License

Generate and install a license as follows:

  1. Locate and record the SBC SWe Edge ID. Refer to Viewing the Software Version and Hardware ID (SBC 1000/2000, SBC SWe Edge).
  2. Access the Self-Service Licensing and Download Portal and enter credentials.

  3. Click Generate License Key.
  4. Click Configuration.

    SBC SWe Edge ID and Email - Additional Notes
    • In some instances the SBC SWe Edge ID may be named SBC SWe Edge ID#.
    • The string under Hardware ID(s): should be equivalent to the SBC SWe Edge  ID you submitted when you generated your license. If different, re-visit your email inbox for another email or, alternatively, contact Ribbon Customer Support.
  5. Enter the SBC SWe Edge  ID in the UUID#1 field and click Generate. Within 24 hours, you will receive an email (check spam folder, clutter, etc).

    If you do not receive your email within 24 hours, re-visit your email inbox and check spam, clutter, etc. If still not found, contact Ribbon Customer Support.

    This email includes the Management ID. For information about how to apply the Management ID, refer to either Configuring for Ribbon Application Management Platform during Initial Setup or Configuring for Ribbon Application Management Platform at Node-level.

    The following is an example of the email you will receive.

    Caution

    You cannot use the Management ID as it appears in the email unless it contains colons. If the Management ID in the email does not have colons, refer to the Management ID instructions in either Configuring for Ribbon Application Management Platform during Initial Setup or Configuring for Ribbon Application Management Platform at Node-level.

  6. Save the file attachment (license file in .XML format) to your PC.
  7. In the WebUI, click the Settings tab.
  8. Access Licensing > Install New License.
  9. Click Choose File.
  10. Select the license file you saved from the Ribbon email, and click Open.
  11. Click Decode to confirm license is correct before applying.
  12. Click Apply.
  13. To view currently installed licenses, access System > Licensing > Current Licenses.

    A reboot is recommended after applying a new license.
