The SBC 1000/2000 acts as a Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA) and a gateway for Microsoft Lync 2010 Server to Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN), Private Branch Exchanges (PBX), and to ITSP, while improving resiliency and providing the ability for Microsoft Unified Communications users to collaborate with people outside the Unified Communications network.
This guide explains how to configure SBC 1000/2000 as Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Survivable Branch Appliance.
Before you Begin
The following information should be gathered prior to performing this procedure.
- The IP Address or FQDN of the Active Directory machine.
- The IP Address or FQDN of the ASM.
- The computer name of the ASM module.
- Valid login credentials for the AD machine.
- A name for the SBA Installer account you are creating.
- The IP Address or FQDN of the Lync Server.
- A name for the branch site.
- The site details (City, State, Country/Region Code).
- The FQDN of Front End Pool assigned to the SBA.
- The FQDN of Edge Pool assigned to the SBA (If you have an Edge Server).
- The IP Address or FQDN of the PSTN Gateway to be used by the mediation Server.
- The listening port on the IP/PSTN gateway.
- The SIP Transport Protocol used (TCL or TLS).
Procedure
The following steps comprise the general procedure for configuration and deployment.
- Verify the DNS Server is configured and that there is an entry for the SBC.
- Running the Initial Setup on your SBC, if you have not already done so.
- Upgrade your SBC software. Before you proceed with the next steps be sure that you have installed the latest version of the SBC software.
- Deploy the SBA. This procedure guides you through the both Central Site and Branch Site tasks.
- Configure the Lync Server.
- Create a user in Lync 2010.
- Configure Lync 2010. This procedure guides you through the voice routing configuration of your SBA.
- Make a Lync test call.
