After installing the Sonus SBC 1000/2000 for the first time or resetting the Sonus SBC 1000/2000 to factory defaults, run the Initial Setup to configure the SBC 1000/2000 system.

When a system is in Factory Default mode, the DHCP client is enabled on Ethernet 1 and the DHCP server is enabled on Ethernet 2. This allows you to connect to the Sonus SBC without having to assign your computer a static IP.

Before you begin

  1. Assemble the following equipment:
    • Laptop or other portable computer running a compatible web browser equipped with an Ethernet port.
    • Ethernet patch cord with standard straight-through wiring or crossover wiring.
    • Optional: DHCP server and DNS server (with dynamic DNS enabled). Dynamic DNS is required for initial configuration only if you want to access the system via its serial number/hostname.
  2. Verify that the SBC 1000/2000 system power cable is plugged in and the system is running.

Connect the Sonus SBC 1000/2000

For SBC 1000/2000 - Connect through Ethernet 1

Prerequisite: The DHCP server must be linked with the DNS server through dynamic DNS. For more information, refer to Managing the DHCP Client.

  1. Connect the Ethernet 1 port on the SBC to the DHCP/DNS enabled network. For the location of the Ethernet 1 port, refer to Sonus SBC 1000 Front Panel or Sonus SBC 2000 Front Panel.

The DHCP client acquires an IP address from the DHCP server. During DHCP lease acquisition, the SBC provides the DHCP server with its hostname, which is set to the SBC node's serial number. If your network's DHCP and DNS servers have Dynamic DNS configured properly, the DHCP server will inform the DNS server that the SBC is reachable via its default hostname (i.e., the SBC's serial number). For more information, refer to Managing the DHCP Client.

  2. Direct your PC's browser to the node's serial number as the domain name (i.e., A4025511270005.yourlocaldomain.doc or A4025511270005.yourlocaldomain.com).
  3. Continue with Initial Setup. See Proceed with the Initial Setup.
For SBC 1000/2000 - Connect through Ethernet 2
  1. Connect the Ethernet 2 port on the SBC to your PC. The SBC's DHCP server will assign an IP address to the PC automatically (192.168.129.10). If you prefer, you can statically assign an address to the PC in the 192.168.129.x subnet (i.e.. 192.168.129.8). See Configuring a Static IP on Windows or Configuring a Static IP on a Mac. For the location of the Ethernet 2 port, refer to Sonus SBC 1000 Front Panel or Sonus SBC 2000 Front Panel.
  2. Direct your PC's browser to the SBC at 192.168.129.2 (default IP address).
  3. Continue with Initial Setup. See Proceed with the Initial Setup.
For SBC 2000 - Connect through the Admin Port
  1. Directly connect the Ethernet Cable to the Admin Port on the SBC. To see where the Admin port is located, see Sonus SBC 2000 Front Panel.
  2. Assign a temporary static IP address of 192.168.128.8  to the PC.
  3. Connect to the Sonus SBC 2000 at 192.168.128.2.
  4. Continue with Initial Setup. See Proceed with the Initial Setup.

Proceed with the Initial Setup

Follow the instructions for your Sonus SBC 1000/2000 model:

Initializing more than one Sonus SBC 1000/2000

If you are deploying multiple SBC 1000/2000 units using the same laptop, you may need to flush the ARP cache on your laptop before initializing the next SBC 1000/2000 system.

Once you complete the Initial Setup, SBC 1000/2000 should be set up and ready for use.

  1. Browse to the IP address or Host Name of the Sonus SBC 1000/2000 system you assigned during the Initial Setup.
  2. You will be presented with the welcome screen.
  3. Click Enter to proceed to the login screen.
  4. Enter the SBC 1000/2000 Administrator Username and Password you have configured during the Initial Setup.
