Use the following workflow to configure an Edge 8000 platform (8100 or 8300) for standalone service. Refer to Workflow for Initial Setup - Standalone for the complete instructions of an initial standalone setup.
Prerequisites
Login access to the Edge 8000 CLI as user system administrator (sysadm).

Log In and Start the Setup Wizard
From the Edge 8000 CLI, log in as user system administrator (sysadm).
Follow the prompts to change the password, and then log in again.
Refer to First-Time Login Passwords for the initial (default) passwords.Change to root user. Enter the new password you chose in the previous step.

Start the Setup Wizard.

The System Startup Configuration window appears.
Complete the System Menu
- From the System Startup Configuration window, select System and press Enter.
- The System Configuration window appears, showing available elements to configure:
Hostname, Time Zone, Time Server, RAMP Server, PRI type, and 6WIND fast path cores. - Press the down-arrow key to select an element in the System Configuration window.
For example,- Select Hostname and press Enter.
The Host Configuration window appears. - Configure the Hostname settings.
- Enter OK to save the settings.
The System Configuration window appears again, enabling you to select another element for configuration.
- Select Hostname and press Enter.
- Configure the settings per the following Field Definitions.
- Enter OK to save the settings.
System Configuration - Field Definitions Enter the hostname for your system, for example, e8000 Select the time zone for your system. Examples: For the Central time zone, select America/Chicago. For the Eastern time zone, select America/New York. For the Pacific time zone, select America/Los Angeles. Enter the Time-Server FQDN value, for example, an FQDN value from pool.ntp.org. You can use your internal time server if you do not wish to use the public time server. Add the IP address or the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for the RAMP Server. Select the PRI interface from one of the following options: Enter the number of core CPUs to use for the fastpath. The available values are 2, 4, and 6. Default: 4 This field enables the router to access more core CPUs in the host operating system, which enables higher throughput and enhanced router performance. The total number of core CPUs is 8, shared between the SBC SWe Edge and 6WIND. See section Complete the SWe-Edge Settings Menu on this page to set the number of core CPUs used by SBC SWe Edge. For example, to select 6 as the number of 6WIND fastpath core CPUs, you must set the number of SBC SWe Edge CPUs to 2 or 1. Consult Ribbon Technical Support before increasing this setting, as Ribbon has optimized the default setting for overall Edge 8000 performance. Complete the BR1-5 Menus
From the System Startup Configuration window, select a bridge and press Enter.
The Bridge Configuration window appears, for example, BR1 Configuration window.Configure the BR settings per the following Field Definitions.
NoteBR3 is an internal bridge with no provisionable fields for the members, DHCP server, and DHCP client fields.
Enter OK to save the settings.
BR1-5 Configuration - Field Definitions Required field for all bridges. Default: enabled If you specify an interface in the Members field and leave DHCP client enabled [ * ], you must keep the IPv4 address at the default value of 0.0.0.0 and manually configure a gateway and DNS. Complete the GE1-8 Menus
Configure the GE settings per the following Field Definitions. If the interface is a member of a bridge interface, do not enter values in the IPv4 Address and Netmask Length fields. Leave the default values in place. GE1-8 Configuration - Field Definitions Default names for interfaces GE1-8: ge1 ge2 ge3 ge4 ge5 ge6 ge7 ge8 Default: 0.0.0.0

Complete the SFP9-10 Menus
Configure the SFP settings per the following field definitions. If the interface is a member of a bridge interface, do not enter IPv4 Address and Netmask Length values. Leave the default values in place. SFP9-10 Configuration - Field Definitions Defaults: SFP9 SFP10 To assign a static IP address in the IPv4 Address field, you must disable the DHCP client. (Press the space bar in the Enable DHCP Client field to toggle between enabled [ * ] and disabled [ ].) Default: enabled To activate a DHCP client, leave the DHCP Client field enabled [ * ], keep the IPv4 address at the default value of 0.0.0.0, and manually configure a gateway and DNS.

Complete the Default Gateway Menu
Default Gateway Configuration - Field Definitions Enter the IP address. The IPv4 address must be within a subnet on an interface.

The DNS Settings window appears.Field Description Primary DNS Server Enter the name of the primary DNS server. Secondary DNS Server Enter the name of the secondary DNS server.
Complete the SWe-Edge Settings Menu
- From the System Startup Configuration window, select SWe-Edge Settings and press Enter.
The Swe-Edge Configuration window appears. - Configure the SWe Edge settings per the following Field Definitions.
- Enter OK to save the settings.

Exit the Setup Wizard
Exiting the Setup Wizard saves the configuration settings and applies the changes. This will cause a service interruption for approximately 3 minutes. The system will be unreachable during this time.
This operation causes a service disruption. Perform this procedure only during a maintenance window.
