The hostname and domain name must be registered with the appropriate Domain Name System (DNS) server.

You must comply with some limitations when setting the hostname. Otherwise, you may not be able to log onto the Web UI. These limitations are as follows:

  • The first character of the hostname must be an upper or lowercase letter of the alphabet (a-z or A-Z).

  • The subsequent characters can be any alphanumeric character.

  • The total number of characters must not exceed 32.

Caution

Changing the local hostname and network configuration after the initial configuration is completed may result in unexpected system behavior. It is recommended that you call Customer Support if you have to perform this task.

Note

If you change the local hostname while provisioning software applications, the change does not take effect until you restart all software applications (see Using the DSC - SP2000 System Start and Stop Commands).

The DSC Platform supports IPv4 and IPv6.

The following table list and describes the IPv4 parameters that you have to configure for networking

IPv4 Network Configuration Interfaces Attribute Listing and Description

Field Description
Hostname Hostname for the DSC Platform.
Domain Network domain of the DSC Platform.
IP Address A string of four numbers separated by periods (such as 111.22.3.444) used to represent a computer on the Internet.
Netmask A netmask is a set of four number blocks separated by periods. Each number is normally represented as the decimal equivalent of an eight-bit binary number, which means that each number may take any value between 0 (all eight bits cleared) and 255 (all eight bits set). Every IP address consist of two parts (the network address and the host number). The netmask is used to determine the size and location of these two parts. The positions of the bits that are set in the netmask are considered to represent the space reserved for the network address, while the bits that are cleared are considered to represent the space set aside for the host number.
Gateway Address A gateway address is the IP address of a network point that acts as an entrance to another network. For example, in a corporate network, a proxy server acts as a gateway between the internal network and the Internet.
Network Address The network portion of an IP address. For a Class A network, the network address is the first byte of the IP address. For a Class B network, the first two bytes of the IP address. For a Class C network, the first three bytes of the IP address. In each case, the remainder is the host address. On the Internet, assigned network addresses are globally unique.
Broadcast Address A broadcast address identifying the group of all stations on a network. In computer networking, a broadcast address is an IP address that allows information to be sent to all machines on a given subnet rather than a specific machine.

The following table list and describes the IPv6 parameters that you have to configure for networking.

IPv6 Network Configuration Interfaces Attribute Listing and Description

Field Description
Alias (optional) Textual representation of the DSC Platform IP address.
IP Address 128-bit address. IPv6 IP addresses consist of eight groups of four hexadecimal digits separated by colons. For example 2001:0db8:85a3:0042:0000:8a2e:0370:7334.
Prefix Length Numerical value that indicates the length of the routing prefix. The number may be between 0 to 128 with a default of 64 bit.
