Introduction

This technical guide shows how to configure the SBC Edge Portfolio with a Tenor AF/AX for fax connection.

This document provides basic guidelines, and assumes the user has a working knowledge of the following products:

  • The SBC
  • Tenor AFM200

Deployed software versions in this document are:

  • Ribbon SBC 1000: 5.0.2 build 405

  • Tenor AF: P108-09-32

Basic configuration information for these products can be found in the Best Practices section.

Configure the SBC Edge Portfolio (SBC)

This procedure detailing configuration of the SBC and Tenor AFM200 assumes configuration in the country of France using G711A / G.711A / a-law.  Other countries such as USA and Japan use the corresponding G711U / G.711U / µ-Law. Verify you are using the proper protocol for the country in which the configuration is taking place.

Perform the steps below to configure the SBC for the interconnection scenario.

Use the SBC web interface and search for the objects below to help with navigation.

T.38 Media profile

In the Media Profile section, create a Fax Media Profile for T.30. Refer to Managing Media Profiles.

The T.38 protocol optimizes the interconnection reliability of a fax over IP networks.

Fax Media List

Create a dedicated Fax Media List that includes Default G711A and T.39 for Media Profiles. These are used negotiate the T.38 during connection. Refer to Managing Media Lists.

SIP Registrar Table

  1. Create an SBC SIP Registrar table so the Tenor can register each of its analog ports as a SIP User Agent into the SBC.
  2. Enter as many number of Users as expected analog ports to be registered. Refer to Creating and Modifying SIP Local Registrars.

Tenor Call Routing Table

Create a Call Routing Table for Tenor, to route a fax call from Tenor to PSTN through the SBC Edge Portfolio. For details, refer to Creating and Modifying Entries to Call Routing Tables.

If the call format does not need to be transformed (Ex. 1001 to +133123451001), use any “Passthrough untouched” transformation table.

Tenor Signaling Group

  1. Create the Tenor SIP Signaling Group which allows the SBC to send and receive SIP calls to/from the Tenor with the following parameters (created previously).
  2. Verify that the values in the Port and Protocol fields in the Listen Ports panel configured for the Tenor are the same when configuring the SBC 1000/2000.

Tenor Transformation Table

Create a dedicated transformation table to be able to receive a fax on the SBC 1000 and forward it to the Tenor, depending on the fax numbers to be routed from the SBC to Tenor. For details, refer to Creating and Modifying Entries to Transformation Tables.

PSTN Incoming Call Routing Table entry table adaptation

Adapt the existing Call Routing Table “From PSTN to Tenor” to insert a call routing entry to evaluate if incoming call is toward a fax number (see previously created Transformation Table) and route it to the Tenor Signaling Group:

This call routing entry needs to be re-ordered at the top of the Call Routing Table “From PSTN to Tenor” if there are multiple entries, if not, it will never be evaluated and the calls to 1xxx will never go to the Tenor.

Configure the Tenor AF/AX

Use the Tenor Configuration Manager tool to configure the Tenor AF for interconnection by performing the following steps:

Tenor Configuration Manager

  1. Select the Advanced Explore tab to access all parameters.

    General AF View

  2. Select Confirm/OK after making changes.
  3. Select the "red star button" to apply changes to the Tenor:

Confirm/OK

Each time a screenshot has a non default parameter, it displays or is highlighted in purple as shown below.

IP Routing Group-default

Dial Plan

  1. Adapt the Dial Plan to the one necessary for the appropriate country.
  2. Select a generic Dial Plan and remove the other prefixes.

Dial Plan

SIP Signaling Group

In SIP Signaling Group-1, enter the following information and verify the checked/unchecked boxes are as shown below.

The Registrer Expiry Time (in sec) field needs to be at minimum equal to the Registrar Min TTL field shown in the Tenor Signaling Group section above.

SIP Signaling Group 1 of 3

On the Advanced tab, make sure the protocol matches the one configured previously in the Tenor Signaling Group:

SIP Signaling Group 2 of 3

On the User Agent tab, create as many User Agents as analog ports to register as SIP UA:

SIP Signaling Group 3 of 3

Edit User Agent 1 of 2

Edit User Agent 2 of 2

DN Channel Map

On the DN Channel Map menu, enter the associated number and associate it with the previously created User Agent for each analog port:

Edit DN Channel Map 1 of 2

Edit DN Channel Map 2 of 2

Codec

Enter at least one G.711A codec:

Voice Codec 1

Codec Profile

Verify the default codec profile is configured with the previously created codec:

Codec Profile-default

IP Routing Group

Verify the fax section of the IP Routing Group menu is configured as shown below, and matches what was created on the SBC for the T.38 codec:

IP Routing Group-default

Gateway - Routing Table Mode

  1. Select the Advanced Explore tab.
  2. Expand VoIP Configuration.
  3. Select Gateway.
  4. Check the Use Routing Table checkbox, if it is not already checked.

The system will ask for a backup and reboot if this is the first time the Routing Table mode is activated.

Number Table-Tenor-SBC 1 of 2

When the Routing Table mode is activated, the following menu displays to configure matching incoming/outgoing patterns/rules. Asterisks (*) in the Incoming Pattern and Outgoing Pattern configures the Tenor to route all calls.

Number Table-SBC-Tenor

Create or rename a Number table by clicking the Number Tables drop-down list or any item on the list.

Number Table - New

Create entries in the Routing Table to route calls from Tenor to SBC 1000 (LCRG-phone to UA-101 below) and reverse (ip to LCRG-phone below):
