Overview

This operation is used to configure the IP settings for the Application Solution Module (ASM). The SBC supports two ASM network adapters. Each adapter can be configured with IP settings, such as an IP address and DNS address (Network Adapter 2 is optional).  This is an essential requirement in order to ensure that the Managing the SBC Communication Service becomes operational.


Before configuring the IP settings for the ASM, ensure you have prepared the SBA for deployment. See Preparing for SBA Deployment - First Steps.

The third Ethernet port on the SBC 1000 is available only if running SBC 1000 v2 hardware. For hardware details, see Ribbon SBC 1000 Hardware Specifications.

Important Note

In order for the SBC 1000/2000 communication service to be operational, the assigned ASM IP addresses must be configured on the same subnet as the Ribbon SBC 1000/2000 host. If this has not been done correctly, the only operations that can be performed on the ASM are:

Configuring the ASM Ethernet Port - Guidelines

After initial configuration, the Ethernet Port for the ASM can be configured to be on the same subnet as Ethernet Port 2 or 3 (for SBC 1000) or Ethernet Port 2, 3, or 4 (for SBC 2000).

Configuring the ASM Network Settings with DHCPv4 Disabled

If you wish to statically define the IP address of the ASM, follow these instructions:

  1. In the WebUI, click the Settings tab.

  2. In the left navigation pane, go to Application Solution Module > ASM Configuration.

  3. Select No from the DHCPv4 Enabled menu.

  4. Enter the required IP settings. For field definitions, see ASM Configuration - Field Definitions.

    A "Current Activity Status" status window displays the progress of the change; this operation typically takes a few seconds.

If the IP address entered for the ASM already exists in the network, the ASM Configuration window displays an error during the configuration. Additionally, an alarm is generated during SBC boot. For more information, see Alarms and Events Reference.

Network General Configuration - Field Definitions

Remote Desktop Enabled

Specifies whether Remote Desktop is enabled on the interface through which the ASM communicates. For detailed information, see Enabling and Disabling Remote Desktop on the ASM.

Windows Firewall Enabled

Specifies whether the Windows Firewall is enabled.

Network Adapter 1 Configuration - Field Definitions

IP Addressing Mode

Specifies the IP address mode that is assigned for the interface used by the ASM. Choices are IPv4 or IPv4 and IPv6. Depending on the mode selected, specific configuration fields are displayed; these are noted where applicable. When the IPv4 and IPv6 option is selected, IPv4 and IPv6 configuration is available.

Ethernet 1 port used by the ASM requires an IPv4 address; configuring an additional IPv6 address is optional.

To configure IPv6 on the ASM ports, the ASM must be running Windows Server 2019.

DHCPv4 Enabled

Specifies whether DHCPv4 is enabled on the interface through which the ASM communicates.  When this field is set to No, the IP configuration fields are displayed.

IPv4 Information

IPv4  Address

Specifies the IPv4 Address assigned to the port through which the ASM communicates. Field is displayed only when DHCPv4 Enabled for Network Adapter 1 is set to No.

IPv4 Subnet Mask

Specifies the IPv4 network mask assigned to the port through which the ASM communicates. Field is displayed only when DHCPv4 Enabled for Network Adapter 1 is set to No.

Default IPv4 Gateway

Specifies the IPv4 default gateway assigned to the port through which the ASM communicates. Field is displayed only when DHCPv4 Enabled for Network Adapter 1 is set to No.

IPv6 Information

The IPv6 options are available only when the IPv4 and IPv6 option is selected from IP Addressing Mode.

IPv6 Address

Specifies the primary IPv6 address for the port through which the ASM communicates. This entry is in a colon-hex notation (i.e., 2001:db8:10::100).

Note: In order to configure IPv6 on the ASM, the ASM must be running Windows Server 2019.

Field is displayed only when DHCPv4 Enabled for Network Adapter 1 is set to No.

IPv6 Mask Prefix Length

Specifies the primary IPv6 network prefix length for the port through which the ASM communicates. Valid entry: 1 - 127 characters.

Field is displayed only when DHCPv4 Enabled for Network Adapter 1 is set to No.

Default IPv6 Gateway

Specifies the default IPv6 Gateway for the port through which the ASM communicates.

Field is displayed only when DHCPv4 Enabled for Network Adapter 1 is set to No.

DNS Addresses

Preferred DNS

A DNS server in IPv4 or IPv6 format. Field is displayed only when DHCPv4 Enabled for Network Adapter 1 is set to No.

Alternate DNS

An alternate DNS server in IPv4 or IPv6 format. Field is displayed only when DHCPv4 Enabled for Network Adapter 1 is set to No.

Network Adapter 2 Configuration - Field Definitions

Configuration of Network Adapter 2 is optional.

IP Addressing Mode

Specifies the IP address mode that is assigned for the interface used by the ASM. Choices are IPv4, IPv6 or IPv4 and IPv6. Depending on the mode selected, specific configuration fields are displayed; these are noted where applicable. When the IPv4 and IPv6 option is selected, both IPv4 and IPv6 configuration is available.

DHCP Enabled

Specifies whether DHCP is enabled on the interface through which the ASM communicates. When this field is set to No, the IP configuration fields are displayed.

IPv4 Information

An alternate DNS server in IPv4 or IPv6 format. Field is displayed only when DHCP Enabled for Network Adapter 2 is set to No.

Configuring the ASM Network Settings with DHCPv4 Enabled

Using DHCP for the ASM IP address allows for the ASM to automatically receive an IPv4 address from a DHCP server on the network. DHCP can be enabled on Network Adapter 1 and Network Adapter 2.

Configuring both ASM network adapters as DHCP clients can generate conflict if not properly configured in the DHCP server. For details on DHCP servers and clients, see Working with Network Services.

The IP address assigned by the DHCP server must be on the same subnet as Ribbon SBC 1000/2000 in order for Ribbon SBC 1000/2000 Communication Service to function; consult with your network administrator to ensure this.

If there is no DHCP server answering requests, a 169 addressing scheme is assigned to the ASM after a timeout period.

Enable DHCP:

  1. In the WebUI, click the Settings tab.

  2. In the left navigation pane, go to Application Solution Module > ASM Configuration. For field definitions, see ASM Configuration - Field Definitions.

    The example below shows DHCP disabled for IPv4 on Network Adapter 1 and enabled for IPv4 on Network Adapter 2.

  3. From DHCPv4 Enabled, select Yes. Depending on the IP Addressing mode selected, IPv4 and/or IPv6 options are displayed. See below:

  4. Update configuration (see Network Adapter 1 Configuration - Field Definitions and Network Adapter 2 Configuration - Field Definitions.

  5. Click Apply.

A "Current Activity Status" status window displays the progress of the change; this operation typically takes a few second to a few minutes, depending on the DHCP server answering for queries. Once the DHCP address assignment is complete, the IP address assigned to the ASM can be viewed via the Viewing ASM Operational Status page.
