Perform the following procedure to create a Distributed Switch:

  1. From vCenter Home, select the Datacenters from the navigation pane.

  2. From the Objects tab (or navigation pane), click your datacenter.

    The Datacenter screen displays for your selected datacenter defaulted to the "Getting Started" tab.

  3. From Basic Tasks list, select Create a distributed switch.

    The New Distributed Switch dialog displays.

    For the next several steps, you will create a distributed switch for each type of interface in the order shown below. The examples shown below are for VDS-MGMT distributed switch. If server has more than 4 physical NIC ports, you can opt to assign  VDS-MGMT label to vSwitch1, VDS-HA to vSwitch2, VDS-PKT0 to vSwitch3 and VDS-PKT1 to vSwitch4.

    • vSwitch0 - VDS-MGMT
    • vSwitch1 - VDS-HA
    • vSwitch2 - VDS-PKT0
    • vSwitch3 - VDS-PKT1
  4. Select the Name field and enter distributed switch name, then click Next. (New Distributed Switch, step 1).

    The Select Version screen displays.

  5. Select distributed switch version 5.1.0, and click Next.

    The Edit Settings screen displays.

  6. Make the following choices, and then click Next:

    1. Number of uplinks: 4
    2. Network I/O Control:"Enabled"
    3. Default port group: enabled (checked)
    4. Port group name: Enter the name for your port group.

  7. Verify your settings from step 4 "Ready to complete". When satisfied, click Finish

  8. Repeat steps 4-7 to create distributed switches for VDS-HA, VDS-PKT0 AND VDS-PKT1 interfaces.
