Use this workflow for the initial setup of your new Edge 8000 Series device. This workflow applies to all Edge 8000 Series devices.


Note

This workflow references procedures within the Edge 8000 document suite as well as procedures from other Ribbon collections, such as the SBC SWe Edge document suite and the RAMP document suite.


Prerequisites

  1. Login access to the Edge 8000 Series command line interface (CLI), as user sysadm
  2. Login access to the SBC SWe Edge web-based graphical user interface (GUI), as user admin
  3. Login access to the RAMP CLI, as users insight and admin


Workflow

Physically install the device.

This includes installing the device and its cabling, and powering on the system. Refer to Edge 8000 Series Hardware Installation.

Configure the initial platform settings.

Refer to Running Setup Wizard.

Generate and install the SBC SWe Edge license.1

(Optional for 8100; required for 8300.) Refer to Obtaining and Installing an SBC SWe Edge Production Node-Locked License.

Configure the SBC SWe Edge software.

(Optional for 8100; required for 8300.) This configures the SWe Edge for a single end-point scenario. Refer to Running Easy Config.

Perform additional provisioning.

Contact your Ribbon account representative for additional analog provisioning procedures.

Configure system security.

Contact your Ribbon account representative for system security configuration guidelines.

Configure dynamic RAMP registration.

Refer to Register an Edge 8000 Device.

Notes:

  1. The Edge 8000 device comes factory-installed with an on-premise, virtual machine (VM) version of SBC SWe Edge. Follow the instructions in Obtaining and Installing an SBC SWe Edge Production Node-Locked License to order a production license for an on-premise VM license, then generate and install the license per the procedure given in that document.
