MicroTCA.4-based AMC, MCH, µRTM, and PM modules use extended flanges with retention screws. The following figure depicts the extended flanges and retention screws, which are located at both the top and bottom of the cards.

Note

For full details on the flanges and retention devices, see the appropriate section in the MicroTCA.1 specification.

Card Retention Mechanisms (Detail)

Seating AMCs, MCHs, and µRTMs in the Chassis

The two faceplate retention screws on the AMC, MCH, and µRTM cards are located at the top and bottom of the front panels. Proper insertion sequence requires that front cards such as AMCs and MCHs, are properly seated in their slots with their faceplates flush in the chassis and the faceplate retention screws are tightened finger tight against the extended flanges to anchor the cards in the chassis before installing the µRTM in the rear card slot.  Do NOT over tighten screws past initial contact with the extended flanges.  Over tightening the screws can result in damage to the card and chassis.

Caution

During initial installation, if a system card does not power-on, it may have unseated from its slot during shipping. Remove and re-insert the card to properly mate the connectors. If the card still does not power-on, remove and re-insert the card again to ensure proper connector mating. Contact Customer Support if the card still does not power-on after multiple attempts to reseat the card.

The following steps must be followed to ensure proper seating of the AMCs, MCHs, and µRTMs during card insertion:

  1. Install front AMCs and MCHs first, and tighten both retention screws until each card faceplate is flush with the chassis.

    Note

If µRTM module is already installed, loosen both µRTM retention screws until they disengage from the chassis nutbar before attempting to install AMC and MCH cards.

  2. Install/reinstall the µRTM module in the rear of the chassis until fully seated with the faceplate flush with adjacent cards.

Tighten both retention screws until they contact the extended flanges.  Do NOT over tighten screws past initial contact with the extended flanges.  Over tightening the screws can result in damage to the card and chassis.

    Note

Ensure the AMC and/or MCH card is installed correctly before installing the µRTM module.

Note

The installation or removal of any AMC, MCH, or µRTM requires the faceplate Ejector Handle switch to be in the unlatched position (that is, the fully extended position away from the faceplate) before the card can move freely in the card slot.
