In this section:

This section provides information about gracefully shutting down the DSC 8000 in case of an emergency as follows:

  • if possible, shut down the system software
  • disconnect the power to the platform at the power source

Shut Down the System

Follow the instructions in this procedure to shut down all software applications on the DSC 8000.

Start

  1. From the Main Menu, click Processes.
  2. Click System Start/Stop Commands.
  3. Using the Slot Selection drop-down list, select All Slots.
  4. Click the Stop All Software Applications button.

  5. Click Continue.

System routing and management applications  processes are shut down and are not restarted. The card management processes slotmon and rmdaemon are NOT shut down and, hence, keep on running on the respective system.

Hardware Reset

Caution

Use a hardware reset only in an emergency. This reset interrupts service on the DSC 8000.

The DSC 8000 chassis is not equipped with a power switch. To remove power from this platform, disconnect power at the power source.

One method for disconnecting the power is to remove one fuse from both the A and B fuse blocks by extracting the fuse holder from the PDU by pulling this holder outward until it is completely removed from the PDU.

Note

Each fuse in the PDU controls the power connections to PM1 - PM4 for every shelf.
