Note

The DSC Platform is installed with a pre-configured Hostname (sonus) and Domain name (www.sonusnet.com). It is recommended that you change the Hostname and Domain name from the factory settings during the initial configuration of the
DSC Platform.

You can assign a system Hostname to the DSC Platform using either Management CPU cards in slot 2 or Slot 13 (refer to Figure DSC 8000 Control Shelf (Front View)). The software automatically appends this hostname to the other CPU cards.

You must comply with some restrictions when entering the Hostname in the Hostname Resolution screen (internal IP aliasing); otherwise, you may not be able to log back into the Web or Menu UI.

These restrictions are as follows:

  • The first character of the Hostname must be an upper or lowercase letter of the alphabet (a-z or A-Z).
  • The following characters can be any alphanumeric character.
  • The total number of characters must not exceed 32.
  • Hyphens, underscores, and periods are not allowed.

The restrictions on allowed characters are different from the system Hostname, as follows:

  • The first character of the Hostname must be an upper or lowercase letter of the alphabet (a-z or A-Z).
  • The last character of the Hostname must be alphanumeric.
  • Characters in the middle positions can be any of the following: alphanumeric, period, hyphen or underscore.

Caution

A reboot is strongly advised after Changing the local Hostname/Domain Name after the initial configuration is complete as it may cause unexpected system behavior. Such a reboot on a live system is service affecting; therefore, it is recommended that the reboot is done during a maintenance window (Plan the Maintenance Window for a DSC 8000 Software Upgrade).

Changing the Hostname/Domain Name after initial configuration must be done through the WebUI (not the initial TextUI interface).
