This section provides information about the system start and stop commands and when to use them, as different processes are affected depending on the command used. Using these commands ensures that the applications on the system are properly invoked and shut down.

For information about emergency shutdown procedures, refer to the appropriate documentation for the host machine.

Caution

Use the system start and stop commands with care on a live system. Incorrect use of these commands causes system outage.

Watchdog Monitoring Processes

The following table shows the various card, system, and software application processes for the DSC - SP2000 Platform. The applicable processes for each DSC - SP2000 Platform depends on the respective system and software release.

Processes affected by the DSC Start and Stop Commands

The following table lists the DSC - SP2000 Platform Stop and Start commands and the affected processes when these commands are used.

Stop All Software Applications

System management and routing applications processes are shut down and not restarted.

The card management processes slotmon and rmdaemon are NOT shut down and, hence, keep on running on the respective system.

Stop Routing Software Applications

Routing applications (licensed) are shut down and not restarted.
Restart All Software Applications

System management and routing applications processes are shut down and restarted.

The card management processes slotmon and rmdaemon are NOT shut down and, hence, keep on running on the respective system.

Restart Routing Software ApplicationsThe routing applications (licensed) are shut down and restarted.
RebootThe system management and routing applications are stopped and then restarted after the slot is rebooted.

To use the start and stop commands

  1. From the Main Menu, click Processes.


  2. Click System Start/Stop Commands.

      

  3. Using the Slot Selection drop-down menu, select the slot that contains the required system card.

    Tip

     To start or stop all the system cards, select All Slots.

  4. Click the required Command radio button, and then click Continue.
