The Free Memory Threshold feature allows low-memory conditions on the DSC - SP2000 Platform to be identified. You can set this threshold to make sure that the system sends a trap to SNMP if the system’s free memory has fallen below a designated threshold, and sends a trap when the available free memory rises above this threshold.

The Free Memory Threshold raises the 6260 slotCPUMemUsageCritical alarm when the available memory is lower than the designated threshold. The Free Memory Threshold raises the 6261 slotCPUMemUsageCriticalAbated alarm, which is only displayed in the syslog file, when the available memory rises above the designated threshold.

Note

The 6260 slotCPUMemUsageCritical alarm is cleared from the WebUI when the 6261 slotCPUMemUsageCriticalAbated alarm is triggered.

For all DSC - SP2000 Platforms, the Free Memory Threshold setting defaults to 20% of the total memory. The total memory includes the VM memory.

It is recommended that you do not change this setting for the system.

Note

The Web UI also allows you to enter the Free Memory Threshold value in Megabytes (MBs).

To set the Free Memory Threshold

  1. From the Main Menu, click Processes.

  2. Click Free Memory Threshold.

    Note

The descriptive text on the Free Memory Threshold screen is different for the DSC 8000.

  3. Set the Free Memory Threshold value as required (in Megabytes or in%), and then click Update.
