In this section:

Depending on your system configuration, the DSC Platform chassis may be equipped with up to 12 CPU cards. Each CPU card has one license key. It is recommended that you keep this information in a safe place for future reference.

Before you can commission a new CPU card, the license for this CPU must be added to the system as required. This license can be obtained from Customer Support.

Caution

Do not attempt to open or modify the license file. Any such attempt results in the disabling of the DSC Platform. Contact Customer Support for assistance with license key files.

Configure Licensing Using the Menu UI

Start
  1. Log onto the DSC Platform:
    1. At the login prompt, type root, and then press ENTER. You are prompted to enter the password.
    2. Enter <password>, and then press ENTER. You are now logged onto the DSC Platform.
  2. At the prompt, type startmenu, and then press ENTER.
  3. When prompted, change the root password. For detailed information about passwords, refer to DSC Password Management.

  4. Navigate to the DSC Platform Main Menu, select Licensing, and then press ENTER.



  5. Select Add License, and then press ENTER.
  6. Read the agreement pressing the ENTER key repeatedly to advance to the end of this agreement. You are prompted to agree and acknowledge the terms of the agreement.
  7. Enter yes and then press ENTER.

    Tip

    Enter yes not y. Otherwise, this agreement is displayed again.

  8. Do one of the following:
    1. Open a separate window on the same system, enter/copy the license keys into a text file with the file name license.key and place this file into the /tmp directory (go to step 9).
    2. Enter the license keys one at a time (go to step 11).

  9. After you entered/copied the license keys into a text file with the file name license.key and placed this file into the /tmp directory, go to the window that you are using for this procedure.
  10. Press ENTER when prompted. Go to step 12.
  11. Enter the license keys one at a time for the displayed MAC Address. After each license key has been entered, press ENTER to start a new line for the next license key.

    Tip

    The letter that you received with your system lists the MAC Addresses for the CPU cards with the corresponding license key.


  12. If you performed the task in step 10, press ENTER twice when all license keys have been entered to end the registration of license keys. The system automatically upgrades the CPU cards with the license information.

  13. Choose an option depending upon the message received:
    1. If the message shows that the license keys were successfully activated, press ENTER to proceed with other provisioning activities.
    2. If the message shows that the license keys were not successfully activated, press ENTER to try again or to cancel, and then contact  Customer Support for assistance.
  14. The licenses are validated and loaded to all Routing and Management CPU cards.

Configure Licensing Using the Web UI

Start
  1. Log onto the DSC 8000 as root user.
  2. Click Licensing under the System menu.
  3. Click Add License.
  4. Read the licensing agreement.
  5. Press I Agree.
  6. Enter the license key into the Add New License Keys text box.
  7. Press Add Keys
  8. Access the Menu UI.
  9. Navigate to the startmenu and select 3 - Set Initial Configuration to read the license(s) and activate the system configuration.
