The DSC - SP2000 Platforms are generally deployed in a mated pair configuration to increase reliability by creating multiple communication paths to the various nodes on the SS7 network. To provision two DSC - SP2000 systems in a mated pair configuration, you should create an SS7 Linkset with the required SS7 links for the communication path between the systems, and make sure that the link type is set to a C-link (refer to Configuring Linksets and Links).

The Mate STP in the STP screen (see To configure the STP attributes) appears as read-only and is automatically set when you configure the associated linkset with Link Type C_LINK.

The Virtual Node (VNode) Feature is enabled by license on the SS7 Gateway and STP products. Virtual nodes are used for applications. The Local Point Code (LPC) identifies the node to which links terminate. However, if you are using a point code to be shared across a pair of nodes and to which an application registers, then a Virtual Node Point Code (VPC) is required.

The STP function of routing SS7 messages at MTP Level 3 is enabled by license. With this function enabled, the NA is able to receive and forward messages destined for one of its available routesets. Without STP routing, the system acts only as a Signaling Gateway for IP applications.

The R4_8 Compliance attribute is used to activate or deactivate R4-8 compliance for SS7 messages during STP routing. Typically, all traffic that has Global Title Translation (GTT) routed or originates from a user application, has the Originating Point Code (OPC) set to the Local Point Code (LPC). This attribute is set during initial configuration based on the license key and should not be changed. If you want to manually change the default setting of the attribute, contact Customer Support.

The recommended setting for the R4_8 Compliance attribute is ENABLED for a typical STP configuration. If your system is licensed for PCE or Level 4 Converter, this attribute should be set to DISABLED.

Note

R4-8 is a GR-82-CORE Issue 10 requirement.

If you set the Confirmation Required attribute to ENABLED while configuring the NA STP attributes, a confirmation request message appears when the last link in a linkset is deactivated. This message appears regardless whether the linkset contained the same type or various types of links in this linkset. For more information about deactivating the last link in a linkset, refer to the appropriate sections in Configuring Linksets and Links.

Note

Confirmation Required attribute is set to DISABLED by default.

To configure the STP attributes

  1. From the Main Menu, click MTP3.

  2. Click the NA you want to configure.

  3. Click STP Configuration.

  4. Configure the attributes.

    Tip

The Restore Debug Defaults action restores the MTP3 NA logging configurations to their default values and clears the associated logging alarms.

  5. Click Continue.
