The Domain Name System (DNS) configuration feature allows you to use a DNS configuration associated with a DNS value rather than an IP address for a node in your network.

This feature requires that you map a specific DNS configurations to a specific DNS value such as 147.139.1.60 (nameserver), roclab.pt.com (domain), or roclab.pt.com (search), and so on using the DNS utility in the Web UI.

This mapping information is kept in a file named /etc/resolv.conf. When you add or delete a DNS configuration, or reassign DNS values, this information is automatically entered/updated in this file and is saved. You do not have to restart networking or load any other files.

A maximum of three name servers can be configured on this platform.

The TCP/UDP port (53) is now open to allow DNS queries and responses.

You are restricted to use 40 characters for a DNS Value. You can type more than 40 characters, however, the display scrolls, so that part of the entry is no longer displayed.

The requirement to use this feature is that a Routing CPU running on the DSC 8000 must have access to a central DNS server.
