Configuring the IP Address on SDA

There are three IP addresses required for SDA. Two IP addresses are for each of the SDA System Manager CPU cards, and an additional address for the High Availability IP (Shared IP).

Changing the IP addresses is only done using the Text UI. You cannot configure the IP address for SDA using the Web UI.

Before beginning, you must know the following:

  • Netmask
  • Management IP address (shared IP between the two SDA System Manager cards)
  • Gateway IP address

To configure or modify the IP Address

  1. SSH to the Management CPU for the DSC 8000 on which SDA is installed.

  2. Enter Startmenu at the prompt.

  3. Select System.

  4. Select Software Revisions.

  5. Select SS7 DB Apps.

  6. Select SS7 DB Apps Network Configuration.

  7. Enter the required information at the menu prompts.

None of the fields can be removed once the IP addresses are defined. After initial configuration, these fields can only be modified.

After entering the IP address, follow the prompts to complete the configuration. Ensure the LSMS or NSM nodes connected to the DSC 8000 reflect the new IP addresses.

  8.   Type y and press Enter to restart networking on the cards.

Browser and Java Plug-in Requirements

To access the SDA System Manager GUI, you need Java version 8 plug-in for the web browser installed on your PC. To find the latest release of Java version 8 from Oracle, see https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/release_dates.xml.

SDA GUI applet functions are enabled with the latest Java Run-time Environment (JRE) updates to synchronize with a web browser that is updated with the Java 8 plug-in. The latest Java installer released from Oracle is available at http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jsp.

If you have an older version of Java on your PC, you must upgrade to Java 8 before you can access the SDA GUI. Older versions of the Java plug-in (for example, Java 7) are not supported and you cannot access the the SDA GUI applet.

The SDA System Manager GUI applet requires enhanced security authentication to interface with a web browser running the Java 8 plug-in. Recent versions of Java implement strong security restrictions on web browsers. The SDA System Manager GUI applet uses a self-signed certificate to sign the Java security (jar) files.

The Java security certificate (jar file) is provided with the SDA software. Before you can access the SDA System Manager GUI from your web browser, the jar file is first applied to your Java browser plug-in to enable the security requirement.

Retrieve the Java 8 security certificate, Sonus_SDA_certificate.csr, from the SDA System Manager image directory on which SDA is installed. The security certificate is located in: /opt/sigflex/current/etc/Sonus_SDA_certificate.csr.

To import the Java Security Certificate

  1. copy the Sonus_SDA_certificate.csr file from the SDA System Manager image directory to your PC or local server.

    # cp /opt/sigflex/current/etc/Sonus_SDA_certificate.csr /home/user/desktop/

  2. Start the Java Control Panel application on your Desktop.

  3. Select the Security tab.

  4. Click Manage Certificates.

  5. Click Import.
  6. Browse to the location of the Security Certificate copied to your PC or server and select the file.

  7. Click Open.

  8. Click Close.

The Security Certificate is imported to Java.

If the SDA GUI applet fails to launch, from the General Configuration tab in the Java Control Panel you can enable the automatic removal of temporary Java files from the memory cache that may block the GUI applet from launching. To enable automatic removal of old Java files, uncheck the 'Keep temporary internet files on my computer' checkbox in the Temporary Internet Files Settings screen.

Web Browser and Browser Plug-in Requirements

To access the SDA System Manager GUI applet on the DSC 8000 platform, you need the required system components installed on your PC or local server. The following table lists the minimum system requirements.

Browser and Plug-in Requirements

ApplicationMinimum Version
BrowserInternet Explorer 10, 11
Java Plug-inJava 8 (1.8.0_73)

Microsoft Internet Explorer is the only supported web browser. You cannot access the SDA System Manager GUI using an unsupported web browser.

If your system does not meet the minimum requirements, the SDA System Manager GUI applet may fail to launch. Upgrade any non-compliant applications on your PC or local server to the required versions to avoid any compatibility issues that may block the GUI applet from launching.

When you click on an application, the application attempts to connect to the System Manager for a period of 60 seconds. If it cannot connect within 60 seconds, a problem dialog box is displayed. If the application loses communication with the SDA System Manager, you are notified through a problem dialog box. You can only access the functions of the processor when the System Manager is active.
