Rising CPU Usage has crossed the configured critical threshold level. The slot number shown in this trap indicates the origin of the alarm. A Top Process listing can identify applications exhibiting high CPU Usage levels.

Recommended Action

If this alarm is raised, follow these steps.

  1. Log in to the Web UI as root.

  2. Locate the Alarm.
    1. Click the critical alarm count in the Alarm Dashboard.

    2. Click this alarm number.

    3. Click the date of the occurrence.

    The full details of the alarm are contained within this screen.

        

  3. Make note of the affected card.

  4. From the System Main Menu, click Processes.

  5. Click Top Processes and identify those processes exhibiting high CPU Usage levels.

  6. Determine if a process or critical Alarm indicates the system is under stress (for example, congestion or excessive message discards).

  7. Raise the Critical CPU Usage Alarm Threshold if there are no indications of system stress.

  8. Follow the Recommended Actions for any critical Alarms present.

  9. Contact Customer Support and provide the information you have collected if you require advice regarding further action.
