The Ribbon Signaling System supports a customized Linux-based operating system and Transaction Language 1 (TL1) command capabilities.

TL1 is a Man-Machine Language (MML) widely used in the telecommunications industry for the management of network elements. A computer terminal configured with any operating system capable of establishing an SSH tunnel and a Telnet session is used to communicate with a network element using TL1 commands. TL1 commands are ASCII-based instructions that are entered by an operator at a computer terminal and sent to a network element. The network element sends back a response based on the instructions.

You can use a TL1 command session to configure the applications of the Ribbon Signaling System. However, you must use the Menu user interface (UI) to perform the initial configuration procedures and the Menu UI or the Web UI for system configurations procedures. For information about the Web and Menu UIs, refer to the appropriate sections in the Web UI and Menu UI Guide

The TL1 command prompt is accessible through an SSH tunnel in combination with a Telnet session connected to the Ribbon Signaling System using the shared IP interface on the management CPU cards or the unique IP interfaces on these cards (refer to Establishing and Terminating a TL1 Command Session).

For information about connecting to the Ribbon Signaling System and the system IP configuration if you have a DSC refer to sections, Ethernet Connectivity for the DSC 8000Creating an IP Plan on KVM Hypervisor, and Creating IP Plan on the VMware ESXi in the Installation Guides. If you have anSP2000, contact Customer Support for the Signaling Platforms Hardware Installation and Initial Configuration Guides

For information about configuring the TL1 PC Ranges, see Provisioning Wildcards and Ranges.
