In this section:

WAN failover enables the system to be configured with two WAN interfaces simultaneously: one as Primary and the other as Secondary. The following Primary/Secondary interfaces combinations are supported:

Two Physical Devices

  • Ethernet Static IP and T1/ADSL
  • Ethernet DHCP and T1/ADSL
  • Ethernet PPPoE and T1/ADSL
  • Ethernet DHCP and Ethernet DHCP—Available only when Dual WAN Ports is enabled.

Two Networks Over a Single Ethernet Device

  • Ethernet Static IP and Ethernet Static IP
  • Ethernet Static IP and Ethernet DHCP
  • Ethernet Static IP and Ethernet PPPoE

To exclude an interface from Primary/Secondary combination, select the default system configuration for that interface:

  • Interface Type—Ethernet-Static IP
  • IP Address—<empty>

To configure Secondary WAN interface settings:

  1. Choose Network > WAN Failover > Secondary WAN Config.

  2. Configure settings using the information in the table below. When you have finished configuring settings, click Submit to make your changes take effect. For more information on submitting your  configuration changes, refer to Submit Configuration Changes.

    Secondary WAN Interface Settings

    ItemDescription

    WAN Interface IPv6 Settings
Selects the type of IPv6 WAN interface to use to connect to the internet.

    • Disabled - Secondary WAN interface settings are disabled (default).
    • DHCP - Configures the device to obtain the WAN-side IP address using a DHCP server available from the WAN side of the network.
    • Static IP - Configures the Secondary WAN interface with a static IP address:
    • VLAN - Enables WAN VLAN support. See Configure WAN VLAN Settings for configuration information.
Note: WAN VLAN support is limited to a single WAN VLAN.
    • Mobile:  Enables you to get a WAN side IP address via a mobile network service provider. Make sure the SIM Card is inserted before booting the device. Otherwise, reboot the device to get the SIM card detected. Refer to Configure WAN Interface Settings.
Note: The option Mobile is available only on

Unable to show "metadata-from": No such page "_space_variables"
6000 devices as LTE WAN functionality is available only on these devices.

    WAN Interface IPv4 Settings

Selects the type of IPv4 WAN interface to use to connect to the Internet. See Configuring WAN Interface IPv4 Settings for configuration information.

    • Disabled - Secondary WAN interface settings are disabled (default).
    • ADSL - Configures the integrated ADSL modem (available only on certain models):
      • ADSL-PPPoE
      • ADSL-PPPoATM - Only on ADSL WAN based models. See IPv4 ADSL for configuration information.
    • PPPoE - Initiates a PPP session over your WAN Ethernet port. Provide the PPPoE username and password given by your ISP after selecting this option. See IPv4 PPPoE for configuration information.
    • DHCP - Configures the device to obtain the WAN-side IP address using a DHCP server available from the WAN side of the network. See IPv4 DHCP for configuration information.
    • Static IP Address - Configures the WAN interface with a static IP address (default). See IPv4 Static IP for configuration information.
    • VLAN - Selects the VLAN defined in Configure WAN Interface Settings. See IPv4 VLAN for configuration information.
    • T1 - Configures the WAN interface with a static IP address and tests the T1 interface on the system using the T1 Configuration page. T1 configuration options are only available on certain models. Refer to IPv4 T1 and Configuring T1 Settings for configuration information.
    IP Address

This field appears when you select Static IP. Manually assigns an IP address.

    Subnet Mask

This field appears when you select Static IP. Manually assigns a subnet mask. Default is 255.255.255.0.

    Network Settings

See Configuring Secondary WAN Network Settings.

    Default Gateway

This field appears when you select Static IP. Specifies the default gateway. This gateway is on the same IP subnet as the IP address.

Manually set DNSSelect the Manually set DNS checkbox to manually set the DNS server.
    Primary DNS Server

Specifies the primary DNS server supplied by the ISP.

    Secondary DNS Server

Specifies the Secondary DNS server supplied by the ISP. Used if the Primary server is unavailable.

Two devices configured for Ethernet DHCP can be used as the Primary/Secondary WAN. Traffic Shaper is configured on the Secondary WAN Ethernet.

When Data and Voice are set for the Primary/Secondary WAN interfaces, the WLR daemon monitors the active WAN link interface, using link detection or ping detection. When the active WAN link loses connectivity the WLR daemon switches services to the backup WAN link.

When Revertive mode is set, the WLR daemon monitors both the Primary and Secondary interfaces. When the default interface comes back up, the WLR daemon switches services back to the main/default WAN link.

To configure Dual WAN Ports:

  1. Choose Network > WAN Failover. The WAN Link Redundancy page displays.
  2. Select the Enable WAN Link Redundancy check-box.
  3. Select the Dual WAN Ports check-box.
  4. Click Submit. For more information on submitting your  configuration changes, refer to Submit Configuration Changes.

The system displays eth1 and its IP information in WAN Link Details on the WAN Link Redundancy page. Now you can configure the Secondary interface.

  5. Choose Network > WAN Failover > Secondary WAN Interface Settings.

The system displays eth1 and its IP information in WAN Link Details on the WAN Link Redundancy page. Now you can configure the Secondary interface.

  6. Configure WAN Interface IPv6 settings and WAN Interface IPv4 settings. Proceed to Configuring Secondary WAN Interface IPv6 Settings and Configuring Secondary WAN Interface IPv4 Settings for more information on how to configure them.

  7. Choose Network > WAN Failover. Information for eth1 as well as eth3 are displayed in WAN Link Details.
  8. Choose from the drop-down list whether Data and Voice should be on the Primary or Secondary interface.
  9. Choose from the drop-down list whether Data or Voice or both should be switched if the Active Interface goes down.
  10. Click Submit to save your settings. For more information on submitting your  configuration changes, refer to Submit Configuration Changes.
  11. To test your configuration, click Manual Switchover. This switches the data and/or voice interfaces from one link to the other
