In this section:
WAN failover enables the system to be configured with two WAN interfaces simultaneously: one as Primary and the other as Secondary. The following Primary/Secondary interfaces combinations are supported:
Two Physical Devices
- Ethernet Static IP and T1/ADSL
- Ethernet DHCP and T1/ADSL
- Ethernet PPPoE and T1/ADSL
- Ethernet DHCP and Ethernet DHCP—Available only when Dual WAN Ports is enabled.
Two Networks Over a Single Ethernet Device
- Ethernet Static IP and Ethernet Static IP
- Ethernet Static IP and Ethernet DHCP
- Ethernet Static IP and Ethernet PPPoE
To exclude an interface from Primary/Secondary combination, select the default system configuration for that interface:
- Interface Type—Ethernet-Static IP
- IP Address—<empty>
To configure Secondary WAN interface settings:
Choose Network > WAN Failover > Secondary WAN Config.
Configure settings using the information in the table below. When you have finished configuring settings, click Submit to make your changes take effect. For more information on submitting your configuration changes, refer to Submit Configuration Changes.

Configuring Dual WAN Ports
Dual WAN Ports functionality is supported on
Two devices configured for Ethernet DHCP can be used as the Primary/Secondary WAN. Traffic Shaper is configured on the Secondary WAN Ethernet.
When Data and Voice are set for the Primary/Secondary WAN interfaces, the WLR daemon monitors the active WAN link interface, using link detection or ping detection. When the active WAN link loses connectivity the WLR daemon switches services to the backup WAN link.
When Revertive mode is set, the WLR daemon monitors both the Primary and Secondary interfaces. When the default interface comes back up, the WLR daemon switches services back to the main/default WAN link.
To configure Dual WAN Ports:
- Choose Network > WAN Failover. The WAN Link Redundancy page displays.
- Select the Enable WAN Link Redundancy check-box.
- Select the Dual WAN Ports check-box.
- Click Submit. For more information on submitting your configuration changes, refer to Submit Configuration Changes.
The system displays eth1 and its IP information in WAN Link Details on the WAN Link Redundancy page. Now you can configure the Secondary interface.
- Choose Network > WAN Failover > Secondary WAN Interface Settings.
The system displays eth1 and its IP information in WAN Link Details on the WAN Link Redundancy page. Now you can configure the Secondary interface.
Configure WAN Interface IPv6 settings and WAN Interface IPv4 settings. Proceed to Configuring Secondary WAN Interface IPv6 Settings and Configuring Secondary WAN Interface IPv4 Settings for more information on how to configure them.
- Choose Network > WAN Failover. Information for eth1 as well as eth3 are displayed in WAN Link Details.
- Choose from the drop-down list whether Data and Voice should be on the Primary or Secondary interface.
- Choose from the drop-down list whether Data or Voice or both should be switched if the Active Interface goes down.
- Click Submit to save your settings. For more information on submitting your configuration changes, refer to Submit Configuration Changes.
- To test your configuration, click Manual Switchover. This switches the data and/or voice interfaces from one link to the other
