Determining acceptable congestion level for the Low-speed (LS), ATM, Annex A, M2PA, and M2UA links can be provisioned for all links at the linkset configuration utility as follows:
The LS, ATM, and Annex A apply to the DSC 8000, DSC SWe (on MA-RMS), and the SP2000 Platforms.
setting the transmit onset and abatement level for LS, ATM, Annex A, and M2UA links as a percentage buffer use (see Figure Linkset Congestion and Usage Configuration Screen).- setting the transmit onset and abatement level for M2PA links as a percentage of buffer use and receive onset and abatement in bytes per second (see Figure Linkset Congestion and Usage Configuration Screen).
M2PA can configure the congestion on a per link basis which overwrites the linkset values (refer to Configuring M2PA Links)
It is recommended that you do not change the linkset congestion default values. Use the procedure in this section only if you are instructed to do so by Customer Support.
You can set an acceptable percentage of link usage, that is messages transmitted and received at MTP3, for all links in a linkset.
Retransmission for link usage is only considered for LS Links. For all other link types, only the MSUs that are received or sent at MTP3 are counted.
If the link usage for any of the links stays above the specified threshold for a defined period of time (reporting interval), then the system triggers an alarm. As a result, a syslog event and an SNMP trap are generated for the respective linkset. At most, one alarm is generated per reporting interval for link utilization based on the level of traffic that was transmitted or received on the link. The alarm includes information on the average transmit and receive link usage.
If you configure the timer value (LUInterval Minutes and LUInterval Seconds) to zero, then the Link Usage Alarm utility is disabled.
Link Status Signaling Units (LSSUs) and Fill In Signaling Units (FISUs) are not counted towards link usage.
The default value for link usage is 45%, or .45 erlang for 30 seconds.
To configure linkset congestion and usage
- From the Main Menu, click MTP3.
- Click the required NA.
- Click Linksets.
- Click the required linkset.
- Click Congestion and Usage Configuration.
Configure the required attributes.
TipThe Restore Debug Defaults action restores the link logging configurations within the associated linksets to their default values.
- Click Continue.
