SBC SWe Edge supports the multiple Memory and vCPU outputs. For detailed information, refer to SBC SWe Edge Hardware and Software Requirements.

For adding vCPUs or increasing memory on a SBC SWe Edge upgraded to Release 8.0, refer to Changing vCPU and Increasing VM Size.

Prerequisites

The following must be executed prior to installing SBC SWe Edge on Microsoft Hyper-V:

  1. Downloading the SBC SWe Edge Package for On-Premises Deployment.
  2. Verify Power Options in Microsoft Windows are set to High Performance.
    1. From Microsoft Windows, click Start.
    2. Right-click Control Panel.
    3. Select Hardware.
    4. Select Power Options.
    5. Select High performance.

From Microsoft Windows Device Manager, disable the VLAN and VM Queues to improve network performance.

  1. From Device Manager, expand Network Adapters.
  2. Right-click on a network adapter and select Properties.
  3. Select the Advanced tab.

    Note

    The following steps may not be applicable to some Windows versions and should be skipped if the Virtual Machines Queues and VMQ LAN Filtering options are not present in the Property field. Perform the following steps for each network adapter.

  4. In the Property field, select Virtual Machine Queues.
  5. In the Value field, select Disable.
  6. In the Property field, select VMQ VLAN Filtering.
  7. In the Value field, select Disable.
  8. Click OK.


Note
The SBC SWe Edge requires at least two Virtual Switches configured on a Hyper-V host prior to the installation. Refer to https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-docs/compute/hyper-v/get-started/create-a-virtual-switch-for-hyper-v-virtual-machines for configuration details.

VM Setup

Refer to Microsoft TechNet for additional details about Microsoft Hyper-V installed on a host or hosts allocated for the SBC SWe Edge.

Figures in this section represent typical installations, values in specific fields and file names may vary in your location.

  1. Launch Hyper-V Manager from the Windows Start menu.
  2. Select Import Virtual Machine from the Action drop-down menu.

  3. Click Browse and navigate to the SBCSWeLite-hyperv folder containing the VM to import, then click Next.

  4. Click Next in the Locate Folder dialog box to display the selected folder.
  5. Select the VM to import from the Select Virtual Machine dialog box, and then click Next.

  6. Select Copy the virtual machine (create a new unique ID) option, and then click Next.

  7. The default settings are displayed in the Choose Destination dialog box. Leave all locations in the default state, and click Next.

  8. Click Next to store the virtual hard disks in the default folder, or click Browse to designate a different folder, and then click Next.

  9. Click Next to proceed to the Summary dialog box.  

  10. Click Finish.

  11. After the image is copied, if desired, rename the VM with the intended SBC SWe Edge host name by selecting Rename in the SBC SWeLite section of the Actions pane.

Configuring Network Adapters

  1. Select the renamed VM and then click Settings in the Actions list.

  2. Select the first Network Adapter. 
  3. Select the Virtual Switch that is appropriate for your location.

  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the remaining four adapters.

  5. Click OK to save and exit the Settings window. 

  6. Right click on the VM name and then select Start.

  7. Double-click on the VM name to monitor the startup progress and identify the initial Admin IP address.

  8. Determine if a valid IP address was generated at the bottom of the previous figure.

Ribbon recommends that all customers review and, if necessary, optimize their Network Interface configurations before proceeding. Failure to do so could lead to interface mapping issues. See Mapping Network Interfaces and then return to this section.

Complete Initial Setup

Proceed to Running Initial Setup on SBC SWe Edge. After setup is complete, proceed to License Installation.

Trial License Installation

If you are installing an SBC SWe Edge instance for a trial or demonstration deployment, proceed to Obtaining and Installing a Permanent SBC SWe Edge Trial License.
 

Production License Installation

If you are installing an SBC SWe Edge instance to carry live enterprise traffic, proceed to Node-Locked Licensing.
