This section describes how to prepare for and physically install a Sonus SBC 2000 system.
The Sonus SBC 2000 chassis can be installed in a standard 19-inch, 4-post equipment racks. Mounting hardware is provided for racks with 24-inch and 30-inch depths.
Before installing the Sonus SBC 2000 chassis in a 4-post equipment rack, you must first assemble and attach the 2 rear support brackets to the two rear rack posts.
Attach the support brackets securely to the two rear posts of your equipment rack. Refer to the illustration below for visual details of the assembly:
The illustration above shows the rear bracket assembly for a rack with a 30-inch depth. For racks with a 24-inch depth, do not use the 9-inch extension arm and attach each support bracket directly to the rear rack posts.
Attach the 2 rack mounting ears securely to the front mounting posts of the equipment rack. Refer to the illustration below for visual details of the installation (click to enlarge).
Do not block the air vents on either side of the Sonus SBC 2000 chassis. Both sides of the unit must clear to ensure proper cooling of the unit.
The Sonus SBC 2000 chassis can be installed in a standard 19-inch, 2-post equipment racks by attaching the rack mounting ears to the middle attachment points on both sides of the chassis.
DO NOT mount the Sonus SBC 2000 chassis using only the rack ears attached to the front corners on a 2-post equipment rack. Mounting the chassis using only the front mount rack ears will not provide adequate mechanical support and can cause damage the Sonus SBC 2000 chassis and other equipment in the rack.
Attach the 2 rack mounting ears securely to the mounting posts of the equipment rack. Refer to the illustration below for visual details of the installation (click to enlarge).
Under special circumstances for upgrades, a Sonus SBC 2000 interface card may be delivered separately from the Sonus SBC 2000 chassis. The card must be installed before powering on the unit. For more information about Sonus SBC 2000 interface cards, see Sonus SBC 2000 Interface Cards. For more information about installing and removing interface cards, see Inserting and Removing Interface Cards.
You must power down the Sonus SBC 2000 system before installing or removing Interface Cards. Hot swapping of Interface Cards is not supported.
After you have completed the physical installation of the Sonus SBC 2000 chassis, connect the grounding wire and power cables
Connect power cords to the power supply and electrical sockets.
If your equipment rack provides dual power circuits and your unit is equipped with a dual power supply, make sure to plug each power supply into a separate power circuit.
DO NOT INSTALL EITHER Sonus or TELECOM CABLES. You must complete the Initial Configuration before connecting the Sonus SBC 2000 system to your network.
In order to provide cable strain relief for cables connected to Sonus SBC 2000 interface cards, a cable management bracket is provided.
Place the cable management bracket on top of the pan handle plates.
If you have installed the Sonus SBC 2000 chassis in a 2-post configuration, you must install the pan handle plates on the rear corners of the chassis.
Use the provided cable ties to secure the cable management bracket to the pan handle plates. Refer to the illustration below for visual details of the installation (click to enlarge).
