This section outlines how to enable user management.

To Enable User Management

  1. Choose Users from the Configuration Menu. The Session/User Management - Advanced page opens.

  2. Enable Session Management by selecting the Enable Session Management checkbox and clicking Submit. Refer to Session/User Management - Enabling Session Management.
  3. Select the Enable User Management checkbox. The change admin password window pops up automatically; you do not have to click Submit at this time.
  4. Enter a new admin password in the pop-up window. The password must meet the criteria that you have set in Configuring Session/User Management.

  5. Click Submit in the password pop-up. You are returned to the Session/User Management - Advanced page.

  6. Click Submit again at the bottom of the Session/User Management - Advanced page to activate User Management configuration fields.

    A message indicates that service will be interrupted, and the following warning is displayed: “You are attempting to enable user management. Enabling user management will activate the default administrative user 'admin'. The GUI 'root' user will subsequently be prevented from accessing the GUI. Are you sure?”

  7. Click OK to accept the change and return to the Session/User Management - Advanced page with User Management enabled.

  8. Configure settings using the information as a guide. When you have finished configuring settings, click Submit to make your changes take effect.

    Account Configuration Settings

    The fields are active when User Management is enabled.

    Inactivity Account Disable Period (30-180 days)

    Enter the number of days after inactive accounts are disabled.

    Failed Login Attempts (2-10)

    Enter the number of allowed failed login attempts due to invalid passwords before a user account is locked. The configurable range is 2-10 attempts.

    Consecutive Failed Login Window (1-24 hours)

    Enter the time period for which the failed login counter is maintained. The failed login count for users is reset to zero when the failed login window expires.

    GUI Maximum Sessions Per User

    Select the Enable Indefinite Account Lockout checkbox to keep a user locked out for excessive failed login attempts. The administrator can unlock the account.

    When disabled, the configured account lockout duration setting is applied. The default admin user cannot be locked out, so indefinite lockout does not apply to the default administrator.

    Account Lockout Duration (1-480 mins)

    Enter the number of minutes a user account will be locked out due to excessive failed login attempts. This setting is not applicable when the Indefinite Account Lockout setting is enabled.
