Overview
The SBC SWe Edge can be deployed running as a VNF on a uCPE platform running an Intel Atom processor with 2.5 GHz or more. All of the features and functionalities of the SBC SWe Edge are supported in this deployment type for 1, 2, or 4 vCPUs. ThSBC SWe Edge can be deployed on Service Providers uCPEs, such as Versa.
Hardware and Software Requirements
The following are the server and SBC SWe Edge requirements for running the SBC SWe Edge on a uCPE platform.
Server Hardware Requirements
SBC SWe Edge Requirements
General Recommendations
- Plan enough resources (RAM, CPU, NIC ports, hard disk, etc.) for all the VNFs to run on the server platform, including resources needed by the uCPE itself.
- Allocate each VNF with only as much virtual hardware as that VNF requires. Provisioning a VNF with more resources than it requires can, in some cases, reduce the performance of that VNF as well as other virtual machines sharing the same host.
Disconnect or disable any physical hardware devices that you will not be using (floppy drives, network interfaces, storage controllers, optical drives, USB controllers, etc.) under BIOS settings to free up interrupt/CPU resources.
Install SBC SWe Edge as a VNF on a uCPE
Refer to the specific uCPE's documentation for installation instructions; the uCPE's vendor specific guidelines must be followed for SBC SWe Edge VNF deployments.
Before installation, ensure you downloaded the SBC SWe Edge. Refer to: Downloading the SBC SWe Edge Package for On-Premises Deployment.
Complete Initial Setup
For initial setup of the SBC SWe Edge, refer to Running Initial Setup on SBC SWe Edge.
License Installation
If you are installing an SBC SWe Edge instance to carry live enterprise traffic, proceed to Obtaining and Installing an SBC SWe Edge Production Node-Locked License.
