The SBC 5400 Hardware Platform comes with three modes of media port configurations. The 2x1 Gb interface mode does not require a license and is enabled by default. For the rest of the interface modes, appropriate licenses should be purchased from Sonus.

The following table provides the complete interface modes and its required licenses.

Media Interface Upgrade Procedure

This section explains the procedures to upgrade the media interfaces in SBC 5400.

Warning

This is a service affecting procedure. The existing configurations will be erased. Save your existing configurations prior to executing this procedure.

Pre-requisites

  1. SBC 5400 should be running on 05.01.00R000 or higher version.
  2. Procure the required media interface licenses. Refer to  SBC 5400 Media Ports and Operational Modes to know the all the media interface licenses.
  3. Upload the procured licenses to SBC. Refer  To Install License Bundle for more information.
  4. Save all your current configuration. Refer to Saving the SBC Configuration to know about how to save your existing SBC configuration.

Procedure

The following procedure is applicable only when you upgrade from 2x1 Gb or 4x1 Gb to 1x10 Gb interface mode.

  1. Log on to SBC 5400 BMC GUI using the credentials: username: root and password: superuser.

  2. Navigate to Remote Control > Server Power Control. The Power Control and Status window is displayed.

  3. Select Power Off Server - Orderly Shutdown (preferred) or Power Off Server - Immediate and click Perform Action.

    The BMC and the SBC Application shuts down.

  4. Navigate to Configuration > Platform Management Network. The Platform Management Network Settings screen is displayed.
  5. Enable the check box Enable 10G Media Speed. This changes the media interface speed from 2x1 Gb or 4x1 Gb to 1x10 Gb.

    Note

    Make sure the license, "SBC-1X10GMP", is already installed in the system. Refer  To Install License Bundle for more information.

    Warning

    This is a service affecting action. The existing configurations will be erased from the SBC.

    A Info window appears stating the existing configuration will be removed.

  6. Click OK to proceed.
  7. Click Save. The new changes are saved.
  8. Navigate to Remote Control > Server Power Control. The Power Control and Status window is displayed.
  9. Select Power On Server. The BMC and the SBC Application starts.
  10. Once the SBC comes up, log on to the application using the default credentials admin/admin. Change you password immediately to proceed further. Refer to  EMA Mode - Login Window to know more about application login credentials.
  11. Navigate to Monitoring > Dashboard > System Status. The System Status window is displayed. Under the Server Status panel, the Pkt Port Speed column provides the speed of the media interface port.

Note

Only the Pkt0 port runs at 10 Gbps and Pkt1, Pkt2, and Pkt3 ports will be inactive.

At this stage, the existing configuration is completely erased. Configure the application as per your needs. Refer to How to Set up a Basic Call Flow to start with you fresh configuration.

2x1 Gbps To 4x1 Gbps Media Interface Upgrade Procedure

This section explains the procedures to upgrade the media interfaces in SBC 5400.

Pre-requisites

  1. SBC 5400 should be running on 05.01.00R000 or higher version.
  2. Procure the required media interface licenses. Refer to SBC 5400 Media Ports and Operational Modes to know the all the media interface licenses.
  3. Access to original and all the subsequent licenses. Refer to SBC 5400 Interface Modes and Media Port Assignments table for the required licenses.
  4. Save all your current configuration. Refer to Saving the SBC Configuration to know about how to save your existing SBC configuration. If you wish to return to 1 Gbps interface mode of operation, you can use the saved configuration. The 1 Gbps configuration cannot be applied/imported to 10 Gbps interface mode.

Procedure

The following procedure is applicable only when you upgrade from 2x1 Gbps to 4x1 Gbps interface mode.

This is a service affecting procedure. The existing configurations will be erased. Save your existing configurations prior to executing this procedure.

The existing configuration cannot be applied to other interface modes.

For example: Any existing configuration with 2x1 Gbps interface modes cannot be imported/applied when the interface mode changes to 4x1 Gbps mode.

  1. Log on to SBC 5400 BMC GUI using the credentials: username: root and password: superuser.

  2. Navigate to Configuration > Platform Management Network. The Platform Management Network Settings screen is displayed.

    If you are using 2x1 Gbps speed as your current configuration, only two management ports are used.

  3. Add the details for Management Interfaces 2 and 3 (similar to this image).

  4. Click Save.

    A warning message appears stating that the changes made to the management interfaces will be applied only after the application is re-installed.

  5. Click OK to proceed.
    A success message is displayed stating that the network configuration is successfully set.

  6. Click OK to proceed.
    All the four management ports are now configured with its IPv4 and default gateway parameters.

    At this point the changes made to the Management Interfaces are not applied to SBC Application. Re-install the SBC application for this changes to get implemented.

  7. Once the SBC comes up, log on to the application using the default credentials admin/admin. Change you password immediately to proceed further. Refer to EMA Mode - Login Window to know more about application login credentials.
  8. Navigate to Monitoring > Dashboard > System Status. The System Status window is displayed. Under the Server Status panel, the Pkt Port Speed column provides the speed of the media interface port.

    For 2x1 Gbps and 4x1 Gbps media interface modes, SBC EMA only displays the Pkt Port Speed (Speed 1 Gbps) but does not mention if it is a 2x1 Gbps or 4x1 Gbps media interface mode. It is displayed only in the BMC Platform Management Network Settings screen (step 2 of this procedure).
