SBC 7000 Series Hardware Platform

The

Unable to show "metadata-from": No such page "_space_variables"
chassis consists of the mechanical enclosure, internal backplanes, fan modules and power supply modules that provide the infrastructure required to implement the

hardware platform. The 5U mechanical enclosure provides six rear facing slots used to install the platforms components.

The bottom two slots have dedicated functions: the System Controller Card (SCC7000) module and Core Server Card (CSC7000) module. The SCC slot (bottom slot) contains the SCC module used for chassis management and Processing (also known as BMC Baseboard Management Controller). The slot 0 (above SCC slot) contains the CSC module used for Control and Data plane processing. The top 4 slots (1-4) are used for optional specialized hardware modules, the first released module being the DSP-LC high capacity transcoding resource module. The CSC7000 and SCC7000 cards, monitor and control the chassis environment and operation.

Chassis

The Sonus

The

Unable to show "metadata-from": No such page "_space_variables"
chassis is made up of five major functional blocks:

  • SBC 7000 5U Chassis
  • CSC7000 Core Server Card
  • SCC7000 System Control Card
  • Fan Controller Modules
  • Power Subsystem

The chassis must be installed in adherence with the environmental specifications and power source requirements listed in Post Installation Checklist.

Fan Control Module

The

Unable to show "metadata-from": No such page "_space_variables"
chassis provides connections for 4 independent fan controller modules. Each consists of a pair of fans controlled by a Maxim MAX6616 dual fan controller and AT24C64 FRU EEPROM. In addition, the fans are powered directly by -48V using a -48V to +12V isolated DC to DC power converter. The MAX6616 and FRU EEPROM are controlled by the SCC7000 via a dedicated I2C bus and are powered by the chassis +3.3 volt standby supply.

Rear Panel

The

Unable to show "metadata-from": No such page "_space_variables"
rear panel consists of following modules:

  • Two Earth Ground Terminals
  • ESD Strap Connector
  • Dual Power Supplies - two options
    • Dual 180-240 V AC
    • Dual -48 V DC
  • System Controller Card (SCC7000) or BMC
  • Core Server Card (CSC7000)

Power Sub-System Module

The main source of power for the

Unable to show "metadata-from": No such page "_space_variables"
chassis originates from redundant AC or DC power feeds. In the AC case, the chassis will be powered by 2 independent external 220 VAC power sources via 2 Hi-Line compatible AC inlet filter/connectors. The SCC7000 will route each AC power feed to a dedicated power supply which will then generate -48 V DC. Each supply will be capable of powering the maximum chassis configuration. When two supplies are installed, their outputs will be wire-ORed, allowing them to load share.

BMC System Control Card (SCC7000)

The SCC7000 card provides both the Baseboard Management Control (BMC) functionality as well as the Lights Out Management (LOM) functionality for the

Unable to show "metadata-from": No such page "_space_variables"
 system.

The SCC7000 card is responsible for the low level hardware management of the

system. The functionality supported by the SCC7000 card are:

  • System fan management and power
  • BIOS/Firmware upgrades
  • System power management
  • Front Panel LED management

The SCC7000 can be accessed via a dedicated Ethernet interface and a dedicated RS-232 interface.

Core Server Card (CSC7000)

The Core Server Card (CSC7000) provides the control and data plane processing resources required by the Sonus Session Border Control application. The control plane processing functional block is responsible all activities related to session management. This includes calls/sessions setup/tear down, media interface management, encryption services, etc. The data plane functional block is responsible for providing data switching functionality for the traffic packets received and sent through the CSC7000 card.

The CSC7000 cards contains a total of 8 x Small Form Factor Interfaces (SFP/SFP+):

  • 2 x Management Ports: Two GigE Ethernet ports (RJ-45, SFP-LC-MM, SFP-LC-SM)
  • 4 x Media Ports: Four 10Gbps Ethernet fiber (SFP-LC-MM, SFP-LC-SM)
  • 2 x High Availability Ports: Two 10Gbps Ethernet fiber (SFP-LC-MM, SFP-LC-SM)
