Installing the SBC 2000 Chassis in a 4-Post Equipment Rack

The 

Spacevars
0series2
chassis can be installed in a standard 19-inch, 4-post equipment racks. Mounting hardware is provided for racks with 24-inch and 30-inch depths.

Before installing the

Spacevars
0series2
chassis in a 4-post equipment rack, you must first assemble and attach the 2 rear support brackets to the two rear rack posts.

To Assemble and Install the 
Spacevars
0series2
Rear Support Brackets

  1. In the mounting hardware bag provided with the
    Spacevars
    0series2
    system, find the rear support brackets (2) and 9-inch extension arms (2).
  2. If you are installing the 
    Spacevars
    0series2
    system into a 30-inch depth rack, attach the extension arms to the support brackets.
  3. Attach the support brackets securely to the two rear posts of your equipment rack. Refer to the illustration below for visual details of the assembly:

Note

The illustration above shows the rear bracket assembly for a rack with a 30-inch depth. For racks with a 24-inch depth, do not use the 9-inch extension arm and attach each support bracket directly to the rear rack posts.

To Install SBC 2000 in a 4-Post Equipment Rack

  1. Attach the 2 rack mounting ears securely to the front corners of the 
    Spacevars
    0series2
    chassis.
  2. Attach the 2 pan handle plates securely to the rear corners of the 
    Spacevars
    0series2
    chassis.
  3. Working with a partner, lift the 
    Spacevars
    0series2
    chassis and slide it into the equipment rack, making sure to seat each pan handle plate into the support brackets mounted on the rear support posts.
  4. Attach the 2 rack mounting ears securely to the front mounting posts of the equipment rack. Refer to the illustration below for visual details of the installation (click to enlarge).

Warning

Do not block the air vents on either side of the 

Spacevars
0series2
chassis. Both sides of the unit must clear to ensure proper cooling of the unit.

Installing the SBC 2000 Chassis in a 2-Post Equipment Rack

The

Spacevars
0series2
chassis can be installed in a standard 19-inch, 2-post equipment racks by attaching the rack mounting ears to the middle attachment points on both sides of the chassis.

Warning

DO NOT mount the 

Spacevars
0series2
chassis using only the rack ears attached to the front corners on a 2-post equipment rack. Mounting the chassis using only the front mount rack ears will not provide adequate mechanical support and can cause damage the
Spacevars
0series2
chassis and other equipment in the rack.

To Install
Spacevars
0series2
in a 2-Post Equipment Rack

  1. Attach the 2 rack mounting ears securely to the center mounting points on both sides of the 
    Spacevars
    0series2
    chassis.
  2. Attach the 2 rack mounting ears securely to the mounting posts of the equipment rack. Refer to the illustration below for visual details of the installation (click to enlarge).

Installing Interface Cards

Under special circumstances for upgrades, a

Spacevars
0series2
interface card may be delivered separately from the 
Spacevars
0series2
chassis. The card must be installed before powering on the unit. For more information about 
Spacevars
0series2
interface cards, see SBC 2000 Interface Cards. For more information about installing and removing interface cards, see Inserting and Removing Interface Cards.

Warning

You must power down the

Spacevars
0series2
system before installing or removing Interface Cards. Hot swapping of Interface Cards is not supported.

Installing Ground Wire, Power Cables and Connect Power

After you have completed the physical installation of the 

Spacevars
0series2
chassis, connect the grounding wire and power cables

To Install the Grounding Wire and Power Cables

  1. Connect a grounding wire to the grounding bolt on the left side of the rear panel, in accordance with System Grounding Requirements.
  2. Connect power cords to the power supply and electrical sockets.

    Note

    If your equipment rack provides dual power circuits and your unit is equipped with a dual power supply, make sure to plug each power supply into a separate power circuit.



Warning

DO NOT INSTALL EITHER RIBBON or TELECOM CABLES. You must complete the Initial Configuration before connecting the 

Spacevars
0series2
system to your network.

Installing the Cable Management Bracket

In order to provide cable strain relief for cables connected to 

Spacevars
0series2
interface cards, a cable management bracket is provided.

To Install the Cable Management Bracket

  1. Place the cable management bracket on top of the pan handle plates.

    Note

    If you have installed the

    Spacevars
    0series2
    chassis in a 2-post configuration, you must install the pan handle plates on the rear corners of the chassis.



  2. Use the provided cable ties to secure the cable management bracket to the pan handle plates. Refer to the illustration below for visual details of the installation (click to enlarge).
