In this section:

ISDN Setup Message Manipulation allows you to match and modify elements of the setup message, specifically the Calling Number and Called Number IE (Information Element). You can select either the setup messages arriving from the ISDN side or setup messages being sent to the ISDN side. 

This page does not allow you to add/edit/delete rules if there are pending configuration changes from other pages.

Adding/editing/deleting a rule does not cause any service interruption and is effective on the next call that is placed.

ISDN Setup Message Manipulation page is divided into four sections:

  • Rule
  • Match
  • Modify
  • Action

Configuring the Message Manipulation Rule Settings

This section outlines how to configure the ISDN Setup Message Manipulation settings.

To Add an ISDN Setup Message Manipulation Rule:

  1. Choose Network > ISDN > Message Manipulation.



  2. Click Add to add a new rule.

  3. Configure settings using the information in the following table as a guide. When you have finished configuring settings, click Submit to add your rule.

    Rule
    The Rule section contains the global configuration for each rule.
    Rule Number

    You can add multiple rules, and Rule Number is the key for each rule. The Rule Number can be any number between 1 and 9999. When parsing the rule list during a call, the EdgeMarc searches by the rule number in ascending numerical order. When a new rule is created, a rule number is automatically assigned. It is higher than the previous rule number.
    Note: This number cannot be modified when you are adding a new rule. You can edit the rule number to move it into a different order once you've created the rule. You can also not enter duplicate rule numbers.

    DirectionThis is the direction in which the rule should be applied. Choose the direction from the drop-down list:
    • Both
    • ISDN -> SIP direction only
    • SIP -> ISDN direction only
    EnabledAllows the rule to be enabled/disabled without deleting the rule. It is 'enabled' by default.
    Match
    The Match section has all the fields available in the called and calling IE that can be selected to match. If more than 1 item is selected to match, a logical AND is used. If a logical OR is used, multiple rules can be added.
    Called Number
    The fields in this subsection concern the Called Number IE.
    NumberThis field is used to match a complete or partial Called Number. The valid characters for this field are:
    • 0-9 digits: Normal digits.
    • '#': The '#' (hash) sign as a digit.
    • '*': The '*' (asterisk) sign as a digit.
      Note: This is not used as a wildcard.
    • '.': The '.' (period) character indicates that a digit must be present in its place and can be any digit.
    • '+': The '+' (plus) character is used to indicate the presence of any number of digits to either the left or right of the match digit string. If a true substring is required, a '+' can be used on both sides of the same string.
      Note: The '+' character can only be used as the first or last character.
    TONType Of Number (TON) indicates the type of Called Number. The type of the Called Number can be any of the following:
    • Unknown
    • International
    • National
    • Network
    • Subscriber
    • Abbreviated
    NPINumber Plan Identification (NPI) identifies the numbering plan if known. Choose the numbering plan from the drop-down list:
    • Unknown
    • ISDN
    • Data
    • Telex
    • National
    • Private
    Calling Number
    All fields in this subsection concern the Calling Number IE.
    IE StateThis field matches and checks whether a Calling Number IE is present. Choose either of the following from the drop-down list:
    • Present: The Calling Number IE must be present to match.
    • Missing: The Calling Number IE must not be present to match.
      Note: If this option is selected, no other Calling Number IE parameters can be selected for matching.
    NumberThis field is used to match a complete or partial calling number. The valid characters for this field are:
    • 0-9 digits: Normal digits.
    • '#': The '#' (hash) sign as a digit.
    • '*': The '*' (asterisk) sign as a digit.

    Digit State

    This field matches and checks whether the calling number is present in the Calling Number IE. For this to match, the Calling Number IE must be present. Choose either of the following from the drop-down list:

    • Present: A Calling Number IE must be present to match.
    • Missing: The Calling Number must not be present to match.
      Note: If this option is selected, the Number field in the Calling Number subsection will be unavailable.
    TONType Of Number (TON) indicates the type of Calling Number. The type of the Calling Number can be any of the following:
    • Unknown
    • International
    • National
    • Network
    • Subscriber
    • Abbreviated
    NPINumber Plan Identification (NPI) identifies the numbering plan if known. Choose the numbering plan from the drop-down list:
    • Unknown
    • ISDN
    • Data
    • Telex
    • National
    • Private
    PIPresentation Indication (PI) indicates whether or not the calling number should be displayed. Choose one of the following PI from the drop-down list:
    • Allowed
    • Restricted
    • Not Available
    • Missing
    SIScreening Indication (SI) indicates whether the calling number is screened. Choose one of the following SI from the drop-down list:
    • User, Not Screened
    • User, Verified Passed
    • User, Verified Failed
    • Network
    • Missing

    Modify

    The Modify section configures how the calling number and called number information will be modified. For each rule, the modify section is only used if the Match section returns a match.

    Called Number
    The fields in this subsection define how the called number IE will be modified, if at all.
    Note: A called number is mandatory for the call to proceed. Certain rule configurations can result in an empty called number field. If this occurs, the action is to reject the call.
    ActionChoose what action you want to take on the Called Number digit field:
    • None: No action is taken on the called number digits with this selection.
    • Strip All: This selection strips all digits in the called number digit field.
    • Strip Selected: This selection strips the digits in the called number match field. For example, if the called number match is +123+, the matched location in the digit string has 123 stripped.
    • Strip Count: This selection strips the count of digits in the Strip Count field. The strip occurs from the beginning of the field. For example, if the called number is 00123456, and the strip count is 3, then the resulting called number is 23456.
    Strip CountThis field indicates the number of digits to strip from the called number digits.
    Note: This field is active only if Action is set to Strip Count.
    Add DigitsIndicates the digits to be added to the called number digit field. Digits are added only after the digit stripping action is performed.
    Add Digits PositionIndicates the position to which the digits should be added. Choose either of the following from the drop-down list:
    • Prefix
    • Suffix
    TONType Of Number (TON) indicates the type of Called Number. The type of the Called Number can be any of the following:
    • Do Not Alter
    • Unknown
    • International
    • National
    • Network
    • Subscriber
    • Abbreviated
    NPINumber Plan Identification (NPI) identifies the numbering plan if known. Choose the numbering plan from the drop-down list:
    • Do Not Alter
    • Unknown
    • ISDN
    • Data
    • Telex
    • National
    • Private
    Calling Number
    All fields in this subsection concern the Calling Number IE.
    ActionChoose what action you want to take on the Calling Number digit field:
    • None: No action is taken on the calling number digits with this selection.
    • Strip All: This selection strips all digits in the calling number digit field.
    • Strip Selected: This selection strips the digits in the calling number match field. For example, if the calling number match is +123+, the matched location in the digit string has 123 stripped.
    • Strip Count: This selection strips the count of digits in the Strip Count field. The strip occurs from the beginning of the field. For example, if the calling number is 00123456, and the strip count is 3, then the resulting calling number is 23456.
    • Remove IE: This selection removes the entire Calling Number IE.
    Strip CountThis field indicates the number of digits to strip from the calling number digits.
    Note: This field is active only if Action is set to Strip Count.
    Add DigitsIndicates the digits to be added to the calling number digit field. Digits are added only after the digit stripping action is performed.
    Add Digits PositionIndicates the position to which the digits should be added. Choose either of the following from the drop-down list:

    PIPresentation Indication (PI) indicates whether or not the calling number should be displayed. This field modifies the PI to the value set. If Remove is selected, then Octet 3A is removed. The SI value is also set in Octet 3A, so if either the PI or SI is set to Remove, the other one is automatically set to Remove. Choose one of the following PI from the drop-down list:
    • Allowed
    • Restricted
    • Not Available
    • Remove
    SIScreening Indication (SI) indicates whether the calling number is screened. This field modifies the SI to the value set. If Remove is selected, then Octet 3A is removed. The PI value is also set in Octet 3A, so if either the PI or SI is set to Remove, the other one is automatically set to Remove. Choose one of the following SI from the drop-down list:
    • Do Not Alter
    • User, Not Screened
    • User, Verified Passed
    • User, Verified Failed
    • Network
    • Remove
    Action
    The Action section contains general actions for the rule.
    Block CallThis field decides whether the rule sets the call to be blocked. This control takes effect only if the rule is matched. Choose either of the following from the drop-down list:
    • Allow Call: This allows the call to proceed normally. This is the default setting.
    • Block Call: This sets the call to be blocked or rejected. It works in tandem with Rule Check. If the call is marked as Blocked Call and Rule Check is set to Continue, the call continues to search for rules. If another Rule Match sets Block Call back to Allow Call, that action is used. If the Rule Check is set to Stop, the call is rejected because the rule search is complete.
    Rule CheckThis field decides whether the search for matching rules continues or stops with the rule. The Rule Check option only applies if the Rule Matches. Choose either one of the following actions:
    • Stop: This option stops the search for additional rules if the rule is a match. This is the default setting.
    • Continue: This option allows the search for additional matching rules to continue. If a particular rule matches and has this option set, the new data to be used is the modified data by this rule. The next rule uses the modified data to match.

To Edit an ISDN Setup Message Manipulation Rule:

  1. Choose Network > ISDN > Message Manipulation.


    The ISDN Setup Message Manipulation page shows the last added rule. 


  2. Scroll to the required rule using the scroll arrows at the bottom of the window.

  3. Click Edit and edit the rule using the information in ISDN Setup Message Manipulation Parameters as a guide. When you have finished editing settings, click Submit.

To Delete an ISDN Setup Message Manipulation Rule:

  1. Choose Network > ISDN > Message Manipulation.
    The ISDN Setup Message Manipulation page shows the last added rule. 

  2. Scroll to the required rule using the scroll arrows at the bottom of the window and click Delete.

  3. You are prompted to confirm the deletion. Click OK to delete the rule.
