Use the User Commands page to enter specialized commands or enable features that are not available through other Configuration Menu pages.

Before you Begin

User commands should only be entered when following instructions in a Ribbon Communications Knowledge Base article or by request of Ribbon customer support.

Caution

The system may become unreachable if an incorrect command is entered.

To use the User Commands Page

  1. Choose Admin > User Commands.

  2. Enter commands in the User Commands area. Enter each command on a new line.

User commands are stored in the file /etc/config/user_defs.conf. They are automatically executed whenever the device starts or a Network Restart is performed. User commands are commonly used to create user specific firewall and routing rules.

    User command examples:

    ifconfig eth0:20 192.100.20.10 netmask 255.255.255.0

    iptables -I POSTROUTING -t nat -s 192.168.20.10 -j ACCEPT

  3. Click Submit.

  4. A message indicates that service will be temporarily interrupted. Click OK to confirm.

  5. When you have finished entering commands, perform a Network Restart. Select Network > Network Restart and refer to Initiating Network Restart.
