1. In the Create a New Classification Rule window, Select the action to be performed from the drop-down list:
    • Add new Rule - Select to define a new classification rule. The Maximum number of rules is 75.
    • Edit Rule - Select the rule you wish to edit then make the desired changes and click the Edit button to save the changes.
  2. Specifies a unique name for the classification rule in the Name field.

    Note

    Only alphanumeric, underscore(_), hyphen(-) and dot(.) characters are allowed.

  3. Enter Index to determine the placement of the rule in the table.
  4. Enter a single IP address or a range of IP addresses in the Address field. Or leave the field blank to signify any IP address. To specify a range, enter the start IP and the last octet of the end IP in the range separated by a hyphen. For example, 192.168.1.100-105.
    If you enter a value in the IP Address field, the Direction field becomes active.
  5. Choose the direction of the flow of traffic that you want to mark from the Direction drop-down list:
    • Upstream

    • Downstream

    • Both

  6. Choose the transport protocol of the flow you wish to mark from the Protocol drop-down list:

    • Any

    • UDP

    • TCP

      If you specify a source or destination port, you must select either the UDP or TCP transport protocol.

  7. Enter a single port or a range of ports in the Source Port and Destination Port fields. Or leave the fields blank to specify any port number. To specify a range, enter the start port and destination port separated by a hyphen. For example, 1000-10005.

    If you configure a port, remember to select a specific transport protocol.

  8. Configure Media Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) settings. Expedited Forwarding is set by default (recommended).

    Or select one of the following priority settings:

    • Choose a number from the IP Precedence drop-down list to enable IP layer packet classification to determine priority. These classes are for devices that use the top 3 bits of the TOS byte for IP Precedence. There are 8 IP Precedence classes.

    • Choose a setting from the Assured Forwarding drop-down list to ensure that packets are forwarded. There are four Assured Forwarding classes and within each class are three drop probabilities: 1 (low), 2 (medium), and 3 (high). For example, AF33 is Assured Forwarding class 3 with a high drop probability.

    • Enter a Custom Value (1-63) if your system supports this option. This option is for advanced users only. VoIP services on the system such as the ALG automatically mark VoIP packets with this value. Consult your Internet service provider for the recommended setting.

  9. Click Add.
