Feature Overview
This feature extends the number of T1/E1 spans supported by SBC 1000 from 2 to 4 spans with the addition of a second T1/E1 line card. Previously the SBC 1000 supported one 2-port T1/E1 line card with the first T1/E1 port being licensed by default and the second port controlled by a software license. In this release, the first port is licensed by default, and the next three ports are configurable through software licensing.
Hardware Changes
The additional 2-port T1/E1 line card (slot 8) is accessed through two ports (labeled 1 and 2) on the left side of the SBC 1000 Front Panel.
The following diagram shows a typical network layout of the SBC 1000 to PSTN or PBX, or both in upstream or downstream layout using T1 or E1 cables.
Software Changes
SBC 1000 requires the following software changes to support four DS1 ports.
- Starting with Release 6.1.0 the SBC 1000 detects and initializes a 2-port T1/E1 line card installed in the front slot (slot 8) of the SBC 1000.
- The new T1/E1 ports are available only if licensed.
- Web UI displays the new ports in the Ports table, System Inventory report, System Overview Status table and Real Time Monitor view.
- The two ports of the line card in the front slot can be configured as T1 or E1.
- Support for passthrough and powerdown passthrough between the ports is accomplished using on-board relays.
- The additional ports will support all ISDN variants and CAS protocols currently supported by SBC 1000.
- The REST interface is extended to configure and retrieve port and channel information from the line card in the front slot.
- There is SNMP support for the new ports.
- Call detail records contain the new slot and port information for calls and is available through the RADIUS interface.
Configuration and WebUI Changes
Access the Inventory Report (System > Inventory Report) to view the modules.
System Overview
The SBC 1000 Overview tab (System > Overview) shows the status of the 2-port DS1 line card in the front slot (Module 8).
Port View
SBC 1000 Ports view (Settings > Node Interfaces > Ports) shows the new DS1 port 8:1 and 8:2 along with configured port type, port status and port counters.
Configuration
Although there are no new configurable items added to SBC 1000 as a result of this feature, the existing applicable configuration elements are extended to include Port Configuration for module 8.
The SBC 1000 Set DS1 Port Type (Settings > Node Interfaces > Ports>) window is modified to include module 8. This window is used to set the port type of module 8 to T1 or E1 for both ports.
Relay Configuration
The DS1 Relay Configuration (Settings> Node Interfaces > Ports > Relay Config) allows the user to choose a relay configuration state on modules 7 and 8 of Online, Passthrough or Poweredown Passthrough. The SBC 1000 does not support choosing different settings between the two modules.
Limitations
- Support for four DS1 ports will be available only on the SBC 1000 chassis running firmware release 6.1.0 or higher.
- SBC 1000 does not do companding law conversion if the ports on one line card is configure as E1 and on the other as T1.
- The companding law set in the system branch of the Web UI is applied to all the TDM ports in the system.
- A software license is required for each port of the DS1 line card in the front slot (slot 8) of the SBC 1000 chassis.
- Certain SKUs like SBC-1K-R-4P-FXSFXO-E may not able to support full call capacity if CAS is used on T1/E1 interfaces or silence based disconnect is enabled on the FXO ports.
Dependencies
To use the additional two DS1 ports on the new SBC 1000 chassis requires installation of the following::
- The second 2-port DS1 line card in the front slot of the chassis.
- SBC 1000 software release version 6.1.0 or higher.
- The 3-DS1 port software license.
