Configure FXS Ports

To configure FXS ports:

  1. In the WebUI, click the Settings tab.
  2. In the left navigation pane, go to Node Interfaces > Ports.

    The SBC 1000 supports fax on all TDM interfaces (PRI, BRI, FXS, and FXO). TDM calls, which have both call legs as TDM, use T.30 protocol. If either one or both of the call legs are IP (SIP), then the calls use T.30 protocol or inband audio. The SBC 1000 supports both the G3 and Super G3 fax protocols.

FXS Long Loop

By using the FXS long loop feature, the maximum length of the local loop supported by SBC1K/2K FXS line cards can be extended to 3000 meter. To accomplish this, you must configure the Long Loop on per FXS line card. The FXS port on this line card supports devices connected using up to 3000 meters long cables.

Configuring FXS Long Loop on SBC 1000

In case of the SBC 1000, enabling the long loop on an FXS line card can reduce the number of available ports by disabling the upper FXS cards in the system.

Enabling FXS long loop on a line card disables the FXS line card in the corresponding upper slot. For example, enabling long loop on FXS line card in slot 1 of the SBC 1000 disables the FXS line card in slot 2 of the SBC. FXS long loop does not affect FXO line cards in the upper slots.

Following is the procedure to configure long loop.

  1. In the WebUI, go to Settings > Node Interfaces > Ports.
    The Port Table View window appears.

  2. Select SET FXS Local Loop Type option on the top of the window. The following window appears.

  3. Select the FXS long loop for FXS line card for the desired slot.

    You can select FXS long loop for the applicable FXS line card, based on your requirement. There are two available options: Long Loop and Standard.

  4. Click OK.

    A confirmation window appears. You are prompted to confirm the changes.

  5. Click OK.

    If you want to discard the changes, click Cancel.

    Once this selection is submitted, all the changes are applied to the FXS Line card in each slot. For example, the Port Type is changed form FXS to FXS Long Loop in slot 1 and slot 3.
    Also, the FXS line card in slot 2 and slot 4 are disabled and are unavailable to handle calls. This infers that the upper FXS cards in the system are disabled if long loop is applied.

Viewing Monitor Tab

To view real-time status of the FXS Modules, click the Monitor tab in the WebUI. For details, refer to Monitoring Real Time Status.

Viewing Overview Tab

To view the system overview, in the WebUI, go to System > Overview. For details, refer to Checking your System Information.

Viewing Ports Inventory

To view your Ribbon SBC 1000/2000 System's assets, go to System > Inventory Report tab. For detailed information, see Viewing Installed Modules, Power Supplies, and Ports.

Configuring FXS Long Loop on SBC 2000

  1. In the WebUI, go to Settings > Node Interfaces > Ports.
    The Port Table View window appears.

  2. Select SET FXS Local Loop Type option on the top of the window. The following window appears.

  3.  Select the FXS long loop for FXS line card in the desired slot.

  4. Click OK.

    A confirmation window appears. You are prompted to confirm the changes

Once this selection is submitted, all the changes are applied to the FXS Line card in each slot.

Viewing Monitor Tab

To view real-time status, Click the Monitor tab in the WebUI. For details, refer to Monitoring Real Time Status.

Viewing Overview Tab

To view the system overview, go to System > Overview. The Port Status panel shows that the Port Type is changed to FXS Long Loop. For details, refer to Checking your System Information.

Viewing Ports Inventory

To view your Ribbon SBC 1000/2000 System's assets, in the WebUI, go to System > Inventory Report tab. The Ports panel shows that the Port Type is changed to FXS Long Loop.

Modifying a Port

To modify a Port:

Click the expand () Icon next to the entry you wish to modify.

Identification/Status - Field Definitions

The Identification/Status Panel controls the network identity of the port and its administrative state (Up or Down). It also provides the port's current service status and when that status last changed.

Port Alias

Specifies an alias for the port. This text is configured by the operator for exclusive use by SNMP-based element and network management systems to assign a key to the port or interface, that is unique across the managed network. Examples would be "Node10Port5" and "VerizonPort5"

Admin State

Specifies the administrative state of the port.

Analog Line Profile

Analog line profiles allow users to change the impedance presented by the Ribbon SBC 1000/2000 FXS ports. It should match the impedance of the specified country's Telco. Some countries use resistive impedance and some use complex impedance. For example, telephone companies in the United States use 600 ohm resistive impedance where as Australia uses 220 ohms in series with the parallel combination of 820 ohms and 120 nF.

Relative Profile Adjustments

  • Negative values represent signal attenuation (lower volume).
  • Positive values represent signal amplification (higher volume).

Receive Gain

Allows you to control the gain or loss (in decibels) to the received voice levels.

Transmit Gain

Specifies the gain or loss in decibels to apply to the transmitted voice levels.

Receive and Transmit Gain affect FAX functionality. Use/Modify with care.
