The Initial Setup process sets the basic configuration for the SBC 1000 system and is only required the first time you setup the system. After completing this process, you can start using and configuring the system remotely using a web browser.
The Initial Setup screen will present different information depending whether or not your SBC is equipped with an Application Solution Module. The SBC screen below does not include an installed ASM. If the SBC you are setting up has an ASM, certain fields are available. These are noted below.
Sets how the SBC acquires the IP address information. Valid entries: Static or Dynamic. Static enables you to enter an IP address manually. Dynamic acquires the interface's IP configuration dynamically from a reachable DHCP server.
Enter the Host Name for the SBC. This is typically useful when you plan to join SBC to a domain. This field is required. Refer to Hostname Conventions for hostname rules.
Typically useful if the SBC system resides on a network that uses an internet domain name (such as ribbon.net). This field is displayed only when Static is selected from the Network Configuration field.
Use this field to set the local time zone of the SBC.
The default value for this field is No, and none of the following fields are visible.
Use this list box to select the desired logging level. Valid options: Informational, Warning, Error or Fatal.
The IP address of the destination log server or its FQDN.
The logging port on the destination log server.
Use this list box to select the transport protocol for the logging information. Valid selections: UDP or TCP.
Select a logging facility code to insert in the transmitted log such that the entries can be filtered. For more information see RFC 5424.
Specifies whether the NTP will be used as a time source. Valid entries: Yes (NTP is used as the time source) or No (NTP is not used as the time source). Default entry: Yes.
Specifies the host name or IP address of the NTP server. If the hostname is supplied, the SBC Edge uses DNS to connect to the NTP server.
Specifies whether authentication is used for communicating with the NTP server. Valid entries: Enabled (Authentication is used with NTP Server) or Disabled (Authentication is not used with NTP Server).
Specifies the MD5 Key ID to be used in authenticating the first NTP server. This field is visible only when the NTP Server Authentication field is set to Enabled.
Specifies the MD5 key used when authenticating the first NTP Server.
The Easy Setup feature provides a template for end-users to quickly configure and deploy the SBC 1000. When Easy Setup is enabled, a user interface Wizard is provided upon login. Items such as endpoint (define user and provider), routing (routing configuration applied to scenario), and country (tone table parameters and emergency numbers for a particular country) are configured. If you choose not to deploy the Wizard at initial setup, it is available through the Tasks tab for later configuration.
Options:
Launch on First Login. Easy Setup is launched following initial setup. See Working with SBC Easy Configuration for configuration details.
Do Not Launch. Easy Setup is not launched following initial setup. To configure the Wizard later, see Using the Easy Configuration Wizard.
For SBC - Broadsoft integration, Ethernet 1 IP will be configured in the Local Area Network and Ethernet 2 IP in the Wide Area Network
Enter the IP address through which the SBC communicates over Ethernet. The IP address in this field will be configured onto Ethernet Port #1. This field is required.
This field is displayed when the Network Configuration field is set to Static.
The Netmask which will be applied to the Ethernt 1 IPv4 address. This field is required.
This field is displayed when the Network Configuration field is set to Static.
Enables or disables the use of an IP address with Ethernet 2. If you select Yes, the IPv4 Address and Netmask fields are visible. This field is required.
Enter the IP address through which the SBC communicates over Ethernet. The IP address in this field will be configured onto Ethernet Port #2. This field is required.
The Netmask will be applied to the Ethernet 2 IPv4 address.
Determines how the ASM configures its network interface. When set to Yes, it enables the ASM to automatically configure its network interface from the DHCP server reachable via the SBC 1000's Ethernet Port #1. Ensure that the IP address is on the same subnet as those provided by your DHCP server. When set to No, the IPv4 Address field is displayed and the ASM IP address must be entered manually.
This option is set to No by default.
Specify the IPv4 address for the ASM. This field is available only when DHCP Enabled is set to No. This field is required.
This section is used to create a local Administrative User and an optional REST User.
Enables/disables the Password Recovery mechanism. If this field is set to Yes, you are able to initiate the password recovery mechanism for loss of the Admin password. For detailed information about recovering a passwords, see Recovering Admin Passwords. Password Recovery is set to No (disabled) by default.
Enter a Admin user name. This field is required.
Enter a password for the administrative user. This field is required.
Re-enter the same password for the administrative user as you configured in the Enter Password field. This field is required.
Select Yes if you wish to configure and enable a REST user.
Enter a REST username.
Enter a password for the REST user.
Re-enter the same password for the REST user as you configured in the Enter Password field.
If you plan to use a gateway to route IP traffic from the SBC, set this field to Yes and specify a Gateway IP address. This field is displayed only when Static is selected from the Network Configuration field.
The IP Address of the default gateway. This field is displayed only when Configure Default Route is set to Yes. This field is required.
If you plan to use host names for routing network traffic from the SBC system, select Yes and provide a Primary Server IP address
The IP address of the primary DNS server. This field is required.
Optionally, set the Use Secondary DNS to Yes and provide a Secondary Server IP address.
The IP address of the secondary DNS server. This field is displayed only when Use Secondary DNS is set to Yes.
The Additional Static IP Route configuration enables you to create static routes/gateways for the additional Ethernet interface, if required. To create a static route, click the () icon in the Additional Static IP Routes section. Enter the fields with the definitions below and click OK. For detailed information about adding Static routes, see Creating Entries in a Static IP Route Table.
Enter the destination IP Address. This field is required.
Enter the network mask of the destination host or subnet. This field is required.
Enter the IP Address of the next-hop router to use for this Static Route. This field is required.
Enter the cost of this route, which indirectly specifies the preference of the route. Lower values indicate more preferred routes. Typical value is 1 for most static routes, which indicates that static routes are preferred to dynamic routes. Valid entry: 1 - 255. This field is required.
Once you have clicked OK, you may connect the SBC 1000 to your network using Ethernet Port 1. The SBC will now be reachable on its new IP address - you may browse to it now.
