The SBC Edge Portfolio automatically downloads configuration files from BroadWorks XSP when a SIP Notify message is received. The configuration files are stored in the BroadWorks Profile server and sent to the subscribed SBC Edge Portfolio nodes. The SBC connects to the Broadsoft server and downloads files according to the options configured in the AutoConfiguration setup.  Each time the SBC receives a SIP Notify message, the version file is obtained from the XSP and the SBC will be updated if it is running an older version.

The SBC supports configuration file, boot image, and firmware updates. Configuration updates from BroadWorks can be a full configuration update (all configuration imported) or partial configuration update (all configuration imported except networking configuration). The type of configuration is specified in the config_import.txt file, which is downloaded from BroadWorks to the SBC before the actual configuration update.

Before Auto Configuration can take place within the SBC, the BroadWorks Administrator must configure a device profile type through BroadWorks Device Management and BroadWorks provisioning, according to specific data provided by Ribbon. See Working with Auto Configuration.

Prerequisites

Ensure the following is completed before setting up the Auto Configuration configuration in the SBC.

TaskPurpose
Ensure CA Certificates are installedHTTPS is supported for accessing files from the BroadWorks XSP. The proper certificate Authorities (CA) certificates must be installed on the SBC before enabling Auto Configuration. See Managing Trusted CA Certificates.
Obtain Device Type URLThe URL is used to access the configuration file on the BroadWorks XSP. Contact the BroadWorks administrators for the proper URL.
Obtain Authentication Details

User name/password configured by user/administrator and used to access the configuration file on the XSP.

Identify Signaling GroupIdentify Signaling Group within the SBC that will communicate with BroadWorks. See Managing Signaling Groups.

Set up AutoConfiguration

  1. In the WebUI, click the Tasks tab.

  2. In the left navigation pane, click BroadSoft ProvisioningAuto Configuration.

  3. Configure the fields, as required. See below for field definitions.

  4. Click Apply. Updates are performed in the following order: Boot Image, Firmware, and Configuration Update. The system reboots following configuration.

Auto Configuration - Field Definitions

Auto Configuration Enabled

Specifies if Auto Configuration is enabled for accepting configuration files from BroadWorks XSP server. Options: True (Auto Configuration is enabled) or False (Auto Configuration is disabled). If you select False, no other fields are displayed.

Device Type URL

The device type URL used for the SBC to access files on BroadWorks XSP, which is provided by BroadWorks (through the BroadWorks XSP's profile page). For example: https://xsp1.iop1.broadworks.net/dms/Ribbon%20SBC-1000_2000_DM/

Signaling Group

The SIP signaling group used to register with BroadWorks for auto configuration, and used to transport SIP Notify messages from BroadWorks to the SBC. This signaling group must be registered with the BroadWorks server to receive SIP NOTIFY messages. For more information about creating Signaling Groups, see Creating and Modifying SIP Signaling Groups.

Only SIP Notify messages arriving on this Signaling Group in the SBC are used for auto Configuration. If a Notify message arrives on any other Signaling Group that is not configured as part of auto configuration, it will be ignored and an alarm is generated.

Password

Password required for accessing and downloading configuration files from BroadWorks XSP. The Password entered here must match the password obtained from Broadworks (XSP's profile page).

Configuration Update

Enables/disables whether Configuration updates are performed automatically when a SIP Notify message is received. When the SBC receives a SIP Notify message, it sends a request with the User Name and Password to XSP; the XSP server requires the files from the profile server and sends the files to the SBC. Default: Disabled.

Boot Update

Enables/disables if the boot image is updated automatically. When enabled, the boot image is updated automatically upon receipt of a SIP Notify message.  Default: Disabled.

Firmware Update
