Overview - What is a SIP Server Table?

There are two types of SIP Server Tables offered:

SIP Server

SIP Server Tables contain information about the SIP devices connected to the SBC Edge Portfolio. The entries in the tables provide information about the IP Addresses, ports, and protocols used to communicate with each server. The Table Entries also contain links to counters that are useful for troubleshooting. Refer to Creating and Modifying Entries in SIP Server Tables for configuration. The SIP Server supports either an FQDN or IP Address (V4 or V6).

SIP Recorder

A SIP Server Table acting as SIP Recorder contains information about the SIP devices connected to the SBC Edge Portfolio for SIP Recording (SIPREC). To support SIPREC, the SBC Edge Portfolio acts as a Session Recording Client (SRC) initiating a Recording Session (RS) towards a Session Recording Server (SRS). TheSBC Edge Portfolio initiates a recording session for all the Communication Sessions (CS) to be recorded. The CS output is based on the SBC Edge Portfolio's WebUI configuration for enabling recording. The SIP Server (SIP Recorder) supports either an FQDN or IP Address (V4 or V6). Each SIPREC Server entry allows multiple servers to be configured. When the standby SRS is configured, the SBC Edge Portfolio sends the recording to the active SRS first. If the request fails (due to transport failure), the SBC SWe Edge sends the recording session to the standby SRC.

Refer to Creating and Modifying Entries in SIP Server Tables for configuration.

Failover SIP Registration

Failover SIP registration is for redundant SIP servers within a SIP Server Table (either multiple entries, or DNS SRV that returns multiple servers). If the SBC registration to the primary SIP Server fails, becomes unreachable, or the registrations expires and a re-register fails, the SBC attempts to register to the secondary SIP Server and continues calls to the server. Failover SIP registration is completed according to the Priority order of the SIP Servers. Fallback will occur if the primary SIP Server becomes reachable again.

Failover to another SIP server will also occur if the SBC receives the following SIP response code from an active SIP server for calls: 4xx, 5xx, or 6xx.

When Load Balancing is configured as Priority: Register Active Only in the SIP Signaling Group, a SIP Failover Cause Code should be selected under Mapping Tables in the SIP Signaling Group. If a SIP Failover Cause Code is selected, Failover occurs for timeout cases and failure response codes.  If a SIP Failover Cause Code is not selected, Failover occurs only for timeout cases and not for failure response codes.

Refer to Creating and Modifying Entries in SIP Server Tables for configuring Failover SIP Registration.
