Not applicable to SBC SWe Edge.

The Application Solution Module (ASM) can be accessed via Remote Desktop. By default, the ASM is configured with Remote Desktop Disabled. Remote Desktop is typically used only for more advanced system changes on the ASM or troubleshooting is required, and should not be required to perform basic administration and deployment of the Lync SBA.

Never Power Off the ASM via Remote-Desktop

Always power off the ASM via the Ribbon SBC 1000/2000 WebUI. If you have mistakenly shutdown the ASM via remote desktop - the only way power the ASM back on is as follows:

  • SBC 1000 — Issue an ASM Hardware Reset via the WebUI
  • SBC 2000 — Physically power-cycle the RibbonSBC 1000/2000 unit

Enabling and Disabling Remote Desktop on the ASM

Before you Begin
This operation can only be performed when the Managing the SBC Communication Service becomes operational. In other words, only when a valid ASM IP address has been configured either via the Initial Setup or the ASM IP Settings.
  1. In the WebUI, click the Settings tab.
  2. In the left navigation pane, go to Application Solution Module > ASM Configuration.

  3. Select an option from the Remote Desktop Enable menu.
Note

Though, it is highly recommended not to disable the Ethernet NIC on ASM, there are certain situations when an operator disables the Ethernet NIC on ASM. SbcComms is used to reactive the disabled Ethernet port if the operation is creating a critical communication failure.

Helpful Tips

If you have not already joined the ASM to a Domain, you can access the ASM with a user defined Administrator Password.
