The SBC 7000 chassis configured for DC power is shipped with two dual redundant DC power supplies. Dual redundancy means the power supplies are hot-swappable. In other words, you can replace a power supply  without powering down the SBC 7000 series platform (provided that the redundant power supply is operational).

The figure DC Power Supply below depicts a dual redundant configuration. 

The DC power supply Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) Ribbon Part Number is 451-01056 and the product codes are:

  • SBC-7000-PSUDC
  • SBC-7000-PSUDC-SPARE


DC Power Supply

Important
Before replacing a power supply in a redundant Power Supply configuration, verify the status of the redundant Power Supply. The Power OK (POK) LED status must be solid green. Removing the power supply when the redundant Power Supply does not show a solid green status, may cause the system to power down. Contact Ribbon Customer Support if required.

Parts and Tools Required

To replace a faulty power supply, the following items are needed:

  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) strap
  • Replacement DC supply
  • Torque driver with 3/8" socket and 11/32" socket
  • Voltmeter

To prevent damage from electrostatic discharge, an ESD strap is provided in the accessory kit. See Connecting Electrostatic Discharge Wrist Strap on SBC 7000 to install it.

Replacing a Power Supply

Perform the following procedure to replace a Power Supply:

  1. Attach an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) wrist strap to the ESD grounding point on the back of the chassis, and place the other end around your wrist (see Connecting Electrostatic Discharge Wrist Strap on SBC 7000 for details).
  2. Disconnect -48VDC power to the DC Power Supply being replaced by shutting off circuit breaker or removing fuse on facilities power distribution panel or similar operation.
  3. Verify the Power OK (POK) LED is off on the DC Power Supply.
  4. Ensure that power is no longer present on power cables using a Voltmeter.
  5. Remove and retain the clear plastic protective cover located on the terminal strip.
  6. Disconnect RTN and -48V connections by loosening two terminal nuts with the 3/8" socket.

  7. Disconnect the green ground wire from the DC Power Supply using the torque driver and 11/32" socket.
  8. Disengage the DC Power Supply latch by moving release lever to the left.
  9. Pull out the DC Power Supply from the SBC chassis.

  10. Install the replacement DC Power Supply into the SBC 7000 chassis by sliding it forward until the latch clicks in place.

    Power supply must be inserted and fully placed before connecting power cables back.

  11. Reconnect the green chassis ground wire to the DC Power Supply by using the torque driver and 11/32" socket and tighten the screw to 13.9 in-lb.
  12. Reconnect the RTN and -48V cables to the terminal strip nuts and tighten to 13.9 in-lb by using the torque driver and 3/8" socket.
  13. Reinstall the clear plastic protective cover on the terminal strip.
  14. Apply power to the DC Power Supply by turning the circuit breaker or installing the fuse on facilities power distribution panel or similar operation.
  15. Verify that the Power OK (POK) green LED on the newly-replaced Power Supply is solid green. It takes maximum 1 minute for the Power OK (POK) LED to turn on.
  16. From the application, verify that no Power Supply alarms are generated.

CRU Storage

All SBC 7000 CRUs are shipped in electrostatic discharge bags and should be handled using appropriate ESD precautions.

The storage environment for these CRUs is:

  • Humidity must be less than 95% (non-condensing)
  • Temperature must be between -40C and +70C.


The ESD Susceptibility symbol warns of the presence of Ribbon devices susceptible to electrostatic discharge. Do not handle equipment without wearing a properly grounded ESD wrist strap.
