Ribbon provides a wide range of high density Digital Signal Processor (DSP) modules and a comprehensive set of converged, voice, vocoder, fax, and data media processing functions. This section describes DSP density values on SBC 5x10 systems according to DSP module configuration.

The SBC 5110 and 5210 use the DSP20 and DSP25 modules for media transcoding.

  • DSP20—The DSP20 is a small capacity DSP module intended for customer lab systems or production systems that have nominal transcoding requirements. The SBC 5x10 platforms can only contain a single DSP20 module. Additionally, the DSP20 modules cannot co-exist in a system with DSP25 modules.

  • DSP25—The DSP25 is a high capacity DSP module intended for customer production-level systems requiring transcoding. The SBC 5x10 platforms can contain up to four DSP25 modules. Additionally, DSP25 modules cannot co-exist in a system with a DSP20 module.

These pages include matrices depicting the maximum number of sessions between two codec types depending upon the type and number of DSP modules installed.

Keep in mind the following when referring to these matrices:

  • Cells highlighted in yellow may be limited by bandwidth depending upon packet size.
  • Values associated with the same codec (i.e. like-codec to like-codec) refer to re-packetization
Note
DSP20 and DSP25 modules cannot be used on SBC 5100, SBC 5200 or SBC 7000 platforms.
