The SBC Core provides a wide range of high density digital signal processor (DSP) modules and a comprehensive set of converged, voice, video, vocoder, fax and data media processing functions. This section describes the possible DSP density values on SBC 5000 series devices (5100, 5110, 5200, 5210, 5400) and the SBC 7000 device according to their DSP module configurations.

Channel densities of the SBC 5000 series and the SBC 7000 are dynamically determined according to resources (MIPS and memory) required by particular codecs in use. The SBC 5110, 5210, and 5400 platforms use DSP2x modules.

 

Comparison of SBC DSP Modules

Two types of DSP cards are used on SBC 5000 series platforms. The SBC 5110, 5210, and 5400 platforms use DSP2x modules, and the SBC 5100 and 5200 use the SPS100 modules. The number of transcoded sessions supported on the DSP2x and SPS100 modules varies by codec. Available platform bandwidth may also limit sessions depending on packet size

The SBC 7000 platform uses the high density DSP-LC type of modules.

Note

Mixing DSP20 and DSP25 cards (both within a chassis and between active/standby servers in HA scenario) is not supported.
For example, if SBC-A contains DSP25 in slot 1-3, SBC-B must also have a DSP25 in slots 1-3. As another example, if SBC-A has a DSP20 in slot 1, SBC-B must not have anything other than a DSP20 in slot 1.

Note

Only one DSP20 is allowed in an SBC 5000 series chassis, and it must reside in slot 1.
