Live Monitor is a configurable dashboard tool that displays a range of graphs for both real-time monitoring and historical performance monitoring. You can configure each graph individually to change the time range and other parameters, such as call cause codes and call durations. You can also customize some graphs to show data for specific zones, trunk groups, or IP Interfaces. All users except Security Auditors and CALEA users can view the Live Monitor window.
You can open Live Monitor either from the Live Monitor link on the home EMA window, or using the following path: Monitoring > Dashboard > Live Monitor.
Enabling or Disabling Live Monitoring (Polling)
You can enable or disable Data collection for live monitoring at any time. Data collection is disabled by default. When enabled, the SBC retrieves all actve calls on the SBC from the Call Count Status
table. The data is polled at frequent intervals (every minute). To retrieve active calls for specific zones and trunk groups, the SBC uses the Call Current Statistics
. This data is polled every 15 minutes.
To enable/disable Live Monitoring, on the Live Monitor window select the desired option as shown in the following figure.
Live Monitoring cannot be enabled on a system with less than 6 CPUs and less than 16 GB RAM.
Live Monitor data purging occurs on either a disk-space or age basis:
In HA deployments, Live Monitoring configuration parameters and data on the active system are also available on the standby system. However, during a failover, some of the Live Monitor data may not be saved to the database.
Administrators and Operators have the ability to change the settings for Live Monitor and for the individual charts on the page.
To select which Live Monitor metrics appear on the Live Monitor window and optionally specify data targets:
The settings for the Live Monitor screen apply to all users. If one user changes the settings for Live Monitor or for an individual chart, the same change applies to all EMA users.
You can monitor up to 11 Live Monitor metrics:
Some graph types have additional settings to define them. For every graph type, you can select a time duration from the Display graph for drop-down list and click OK. The minimum time period is 1 hour and the maximum is 7 days.
The Live Monitor metrics and settings are listed below.
Metrics | Description and options |
---|---|
Licensed Service Usage | Displays the number of calls on all the zones and trunk groups for the selected time duration.
|
Active Calls per Zone/Trunk Group | Displays the number of calls for the selected zones and trunk groups for the specified time duration. In the Settings menu, select:
A maximum of four zones and/or trunk groups can be shown on each chart. |
Short Duration Calls | Displays the number of short duration calls for the specified time duration. Calls shorter than the specified duration are classified as short duration calls.
|
Long Duration Calls | Displays the number of long duration calls for the specified time duration. Calls longer than the specified duration are classified as long duration calls.
|
Call Disconnect Reason | Displays the number of disconnected calls for a specified reason and time duration.
|
Call Attempts/Call Completions | Displays the number of calls attempted and the number of calls completed for a specified time duration. |
Call Attempts/Call Completions per Zone/Trunk Group | Displays the number of calls attempted and the number of calls completed for a specified time duration and zone/trunk group. In the Settings menu, select:
A maximum of four zones and/or trunk groups can be shown on each chart. |
Bandwidth Allocated | Displays the available bandwidth for all the IP interfaces for the specified duration. |
Bandwidth Allocated per IP Interface | Displays the available bandwidth for the specified IP interfaces and duration.
|
Bandwidth Usage | Displays the usage for all the zones and trunk groups for a specified duration. |
Bandwidth Usage per Zone/Trunk Group | Displays the usage for the specified zone and trunk group. In the Settings menu, select:
A maximum of four zones and/or trunk groups can be shown on each chart. |
You can customize the graph output by adjusting its settings. Each type of graph can be set individually. The type of settings depend on the graph contents and include options such as specifying a time duration, or filtering the output for a specific license type or disconnect reason. Click Settings at the top-right of the graph to configure its settings.
The Call Data Records viewer is a troubleshooting tool available for the Short Duration Call, Long Duration Call, and Call Disconnect Reason graph types.
To view the CDRs for a specified duration, click and drag the duration on the Time of Day graph.
After making the selection, click Troubleshoot.
The CDR Viewer screen displays the relevant data. Click Back to Live Monitor to go back to Live Monitor window.
Live Monitor graphs have the following general usability characteristics.
Tool Tip on Hovering: Tool Tips are enabled on the graphs to provide details when a mouse is hovered on it.
Color Coded Graphs: Graph variables are color-coded for clarity.
Auto-refresh rates: The data in charts auto-refreshes at regular intervals based on the range selected for the chart. For example:
If the display range is one hour, trunk group, zone, and IP Interface based charts refresh every 15 minutes, while all other charts refresh every minute.
If the range is 3, 6 or 12 hours, the charts refresh every 15 min.
If the range is in days, the charts refresh every hour.
Persistence: Every individual chart is persistent. The settings for each chart and the number of charts are saved automatically between logins.
