Scenario

The SBC Core supports acting as an Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX) device and supporting SIP-to-SIP-I interworking.

Background Information

  • The requirements specified in the section Minimal Out-Of-The-Box Configuration are met.
  • Ports and IP Interface Groups have been configured as described in NNI-Complex route selection.
  • Wireless networks are still very reliant on PSTN interconnections. IPX (IP eXchange) is a GSMA initiative to define an entity that is capable of providing an IP-based interconnection for wireless networks.
  • An IPX maybe placed at the edge of a wireless carrier, or it maybe a clearing house solution provided by a 3rd party carrier (e.g. L3, GLBX etc may provide this as a service to wireless operators who wish to interconnect).

Description

Figure 1: SBC as IPX

The IPX model allows different networks to interconnect using their native connections and theSBC sorts out the different connection types.
