IMPORTANT

The SBC 5100, SBC 5110, SBC 5200, and SBC 5210 platforms are no longer supported beginning with the SBC Core 10.0.0R0 release. This release supports SBC 5400/7000/SWe/CNe platforms. Contact Ribbon Sales for upgrade information.

A maximum of 254 IP addresses are configurable on each LIF for IPv4 and/or IPv6 addresses. Any combination of IPv4/IPv6 is allowed and applies to all supported protocols (SIP, H.323, GW-GW).

A total of 4,096 IP Addresses are supported. One example of assigning 4,096 IP addresses is to assign 16 IP addresses (one primary IP Address, one Alternate IP Address and 14 Alternate Media IP Addresses) to each of 254 interfaces. Another possible combination is to assign eight IP Addresses (one Primary IP Address and seven Alternate Media IP Addresses) to each of the 254 interfaces. In the extreme case, each of the 4,096 interfaces are assigned a single primary IP address. Please note that most user configurations will not need to use 4,096 IP addresses.

Alternate Media IP’s are chosen based on Round Robin method (e.g. the first call uses the primary IP and port, the second call uses the first configured alternate Media IP and port, the third call uses the second configured alternate Media IP, etc.). Each alternate Media IP must be unique across all interfaces in the same addressContext. However, the IPs may overlap between SIP, H.323 or Gateway signaling addresses in the same Address Context.

Note
  • The SBC 7000 series system supports 8,192 IP addresses.
  • The SBC SWe supports 2,048 IP addresses

The following constraints apply:

  • An IPv4/IPv6 alternate media IP address is only allowed if a primary IPv4/IPv6 address exists.
  • An alternate media IP address must be in the same network as the primary media address (of the same IP version).
  • An alternate media IP address can only be deleted if the IP interface is in state disabled. However, it may be added while the IP interface is enabled and in-service.

To View Alt Media IP Addresses

On the SBC main screen, navigate to All > Address Context > IP Interface Group > IP Interface > Alt Media IP Addresses.

The Alt Media IP Addresses can be checked for each Address Context, IP Interface Group, and IP Interface or for all the Address Contexts, IP Interface Groups, and IP Interfaces created. Use the drop-down box to select the desired Address Contexts, IP Interface Group, and IP Interface.

Description

Alt Media IP Addresses

Use this parameter to specify up to 254 additional IPv4 and/or IPv6 media IP addresses on this IP interface. Any combination of IPv4 and IPv6 is allowed. The following rules apply when configuring alternate media IP addresses:

  • An IPv4/IPv6 alternate media IP address is only allowed if an IPv4/IPv6 address is defined in the primary or alternate (main) address.
  • An alternate media IP address must be in the same network as the primary media address (of the same IP version). Hence, CPX needs to determine the subnet based on the primary/alt IP address and primary/alt prefix, and then verify that the given alternate media address is on the same subnet.
  • An alternate media IP address may be added while the IP interface is enabled and in-service. However, the IP can only be deleted when the IP interface state is set to "disabled".

To Delete Alt Media IP Addresses

To delete any of the created Alt Media IP Addresses, click the radio button next to the specific Alt Media IP Addresses which you want to delete.

Click Delete at the end of the highlighted row. A delete confirmation message appears seeking your decision.
