In an enterprise integrated SBC scenario, the SBC is deployed before an IP PBX. The enterprise uses one or more trunks provided by the service provider to connect to the PSTN network.

An SBC deployed in the enterprise network provides the following benefits:

  • Call admission control to the enterprise network at the border.
  • The enterprise IP network topology and endpoint characteristics are visible to the PSTN endpoint.
  • Demarcation point for SP hand-off and troubleshooting purposes.
  • QoS and codec selections are under control of the enterprise.
  • Protection against DOS attacks against SIP.
  • SIP normalization – normalizing SIP messaging on the network border or between two unrelated devices within the network that support SIP.
  • Toll-fraud control point.
