In this section:
The Link Detection Group object allows you to group interfaces and associated Link Monitors together and track link verification failures within the group. A Link Detection Group (LDG) is configured with a unique name and a failover threshold. The LDG tracks the number of link verification failures that have occurred among the Link Monitors configured.
In addition to a Failover Threshold, a Link Detection Group can also be configured with values for the Verify Timer
, Response Timer
, Reattempt Timer
and Retries.
These values are used for each Link Monitor belonging to the group, unless that Link Monitor is configured with its own unique values for these fields.
Link detection failure alarms are raised only when Link Detection Group (LDG) is configured.
A manual switchover is not allowed when the LDGs are configured on both active and standby SBCs and if LDG on the standby SBC is in a failed state.
On the SBC main screen, go to Configuration > System Provisioning > Category: Base Provisioning > Link Detection Group. The Link Detection Group window is displayed.
The Link Detection Group can be checked for each Address Context or for all the Address Contexts created. Use the drop-down box to select the desired Address Context.
To edit any of the Link Detection Groups in the list, click the radio button next to the specific Link Detection Group name.
The Edit Selected Link Detection Group window is displayed below.
Make the required changes and click Save at the right hand bottom of the panel to save the changes made.
To create a new Link Detection Group, click New Link Detection Group tab on the Link Detection Group List panel.
The Create New Link Detection Group window is displayed.
The following fields are displayed:
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
| The name of this link detection group. Must be 1-23 characters. |
Active Link Monitoring Protocol | The protocol used by all the Link Monitor objects of this LDG used for monitoring the link health. It specifies the probe protocol used by the Link Monitors in the active role within this Link Detection Group.
|
| The name of the compute element that hosts this link detection group. Must be 1-23 characters. Note
'Ce Name' is not the system name. For an HA system, link detection needs to be setup on both CEs. |
| You can choose one of the following:
|
| The number of link monitor failures that will trigger this link detection group to declare a failure and attempt a switchover to the standby server (default = 2). A value of "0" disables fault reporting and the switchover is attempted. When a nonzero threshold value is specified for a standby module, the number of link failures present must be less than that value in order for that module to be activated by a switchover. When threshold is greater the number of link failures, a switchover is not attempted. The following threshold settings are recommended: Non-management interfaces:
Management interfaces:
|
| The time interval between link verification attempts. The time (in milliseconds) to send the ICMP Echo when the link is up, as well as the time to await the ICMP Echo Reply from an IP destination. Note
The default timer value for |
| Time to wait for a link verification attempt. Minimum timer value is 300 (milliseconds). Note
The default timer value for |
| Time to wait for a link verification reattempt. Minimum timer value is 300 (milliseconds). Note
The default timer value for |
| Specifies the number of retries before link verification is considered failed. Minimum is 1. Note
The default value for the number of |
| It specifies the administrative state of the link detection group.

To delete any of the created Link Detection Group, click the radio button next to the specific Link Detection Group which you want to delete.
Click Delete at the end of the highlighted row. A delete confirmation message appears seeking your decision.
Click Yes to remove the specific Link Detection Group from the list.
