The Fan Assembly, a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU), available behind the front bezel. There are four assemblies and each assembly contains a pair of fans, as shown in figure Fan Assembly below. The Fan Assembly product code is SBC-7000-FANTRAY.

Fan Assembly

The Fan Assemblies are hot-swappable that is, a Fan Assembly may be replaced without powering down the SBC 7000 platform.

Parts and Tools Required

The following items are needed to replace a fan assembly:

  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) strap
  • The Replacement Fan Assembly
  • Torque driver with a #2 Phillips bit.

To prevent damage from electrostatic discharge, an ESD strap is provided in the SBC chassis accessory kit. Refer to Connecting Electrostatic Discharge Wrist Strap on SBC 7000 to install it.

Replacing the Fan Assembly

Perform the following steps to replace the Fan Assembly:

  1. Remove the front bezel from the chassis (see SBC 7000 Series Bezel  for procedure).
  2. Identify the faulty Fan Assembly by checking the Fan Assembly LED. Fan faults are indicated by turned off LED, or amber LED. The LED is at the right hand bottom of that respective Fan Assembly.
  3. Unscrew the captive fastener on the Fan Assembly using torque driver with a #2 Phillips bit (as shown in the figure).

  4. Using two handles at the top and the bottom, pull the Fan Assembly from the system.

    Removing the Fan Assembly

Whenever a Fan Assembly is nonfunctional or removed, the speed of the three remaining Fan Assemblies increases to compensate for the missing fan.

  5. Insert the new Fan Assembly to the same position.
  6. Tighten the captive fastener to 6 in-lb using the torque driver.

  7. Verify that the Fan Status LED is green. The LED is at the right hand bottom of the Fan Assembly.

  8. Remove the ESD wrist strap from the chassis.

  9. Reinstall the front panel bezel.

  10. From the application, verify that the Fan Failure alarms are not generated.

  11. Verify that the fan failure LED on the front panel is OFF.

CRU Storage

All SBC 7000 CRUs are shipped in electrostatic discharge bags and must be handled by using appropriate ESD precautions.

The storage environment for these CRUs are:

  • Humidity must be less than 95% (non-condensing).
  • Temperature must be between -40C and +70C.

The ESD Susceptibility symbol warns of the presence of Ribbon devices susceptible to electrostatic discharge. Do not handle equipment without wearing a properly grounded ESD wrist strap.
