The SBC Core supports the MESSAGE method, an extension to SIP which allows transferring instant messages to/from registered subscribers based on the IP signaling profile configuration. The relaying of these messages is done in a transaction stateful manner.
The SBC also supports relaying both ‘in-dialog’ and ‘out-of-dialog’ MESSAGE types supported for both registered and unregistered end points. A messages can be received and relayed from any direction (UE to network or network to UE).
The SBC Core can receive and relay any content type in a MESSAGE method, including ”text/plain” and ”message/CPIM” types defined by RFC 3428. If MESSAGE is configured as a non-supported method, SBC responds with “405 Method Not Supported” error.
