In this section:

This section provides a description of the AMC124 Routing and Management CPUs and the RMC110 (µRTM). The AMC124 can also be configured as Application CPU cards that may be configured in a DSC 8000 Control Shelf, along with Routing and Management CPUs.

Caution

Do not remove both Management CPUs in slots 2 and 13 or Routing CPUs in slots 3 and 12 at the same time. If you remove either the Management CPUs or the Routing CPU in the aforementioned slots, it should be done during a maintenance window. Otherwise, the system may not perform as expected.

Caution

When replacing a RMC110 µRTM or installing a new AMC124 CPU and an RMC110 µRTM, ensure that you have the RTM with the appropriate number of SSDs.

  • RMC110 µRTM for Management slots (2 or 13) have two SSDs installed
  • RMC110 µRTM for Routing slots have one SSD installed
  • RMC110 µRTM for Application SDA Sysmgr slots have two SSDs installed
  • RMC110 µRTM for Application SDA DSS slots have one SSD installed
Note

The Slot Monitor software that resides on the Management CPU cards helps you through the process of inserting or extracting a card, including hot-swapping system cards [refer to DSC 8000 Servicing Field Replaceable Units (FRUs)]. Whenever you are inserting or extracting a system card, the Slot Monitor sends a card insert or extract request to the appropriate managing software on the respective card and to all the applications that are connected to this card. When the applications have acknowledged the request, the card’s managing software ensures that all processes are stopped.

AMC124

The AMC124 is an AdvancedMC™ (AMC) single board computer that is based on the 64-bit Quad-Core Intel®Xeon®  LC5528 2.13 GHz processor, and is designed to run very high performance applications that require multi-threaded operations, large amounts of memory, and/or storage access.

The AMC124 is presented as a double-wide, mid-size (148.8 x 28.95 x 181.5 mm) form factor, and complies with a variety of PICMG specifications (AMC124 Faceplate and RMC110 μRTM Faceplate show the physical connections to the AMC671 and RMC670 [µRTM), respectively].

I/O functions for this card are provided by the RMC110 µRTM, see RMC110 (µRTM).

The AMC124 can be hot-swap serviced without the need to remove cabling on the RMC110 μRTM.

This card can be used as a Management or Routing CPU in the DSC 8000 and can be placed in the following slots in the DSC 8000 chassis:

  • (2) AMC124 Management CPUs (required) in slots 2 and 13
  • (2) AMC124 Routing CPUs (required) in slots 3 and 12
  • (up to 8) AMC124 Routing CPUs (optional) in slots 4 to 11

RMC110 (µRTM)

The RMC110 MicroTCA.4 Rear Transition Module (μRTM) provides I/O connectivity to the Routing and Management CPUs (see the following figure).

The RMC110 μRTM is double-wide, mid-size (148.8 x 28.95 x 181.5 mm) card that complies with PICMG specifications MicroTCA.1 and MicroTCA.4. This card is an independent hot-swappable device.

The DSC is designed to provide the following storage on the RMC110 μRTM:

Management CPU μRTMs

  • one solid state 256 GB for logs and data measurements
  • one solid state 64 GB for DSC applications and root file system
  • Routing CPUs μRTMs
    • one solid state 64 GB for applications and root file system
